  • Thanks for the advice, I didn't think there was a problem driving it on my insurance if I had to but I will check the policy and look at temporary insurance to get it taxed and sold then

They have Trade plates especially for that purpose.
Trade plates are to cover vehicles without road tax, a trader needs insurance as well as trade plates.
    ML.
He who has four and spends five, needs neither purse nor pocket

this has been covered a lot and im sure the other car needs to be covered in its own right.
but remember if it doesnt then, you are only covered when you are driving it so if you park to go shopping then there is nothing to stop it being towed as uninsured, also you wont be on the insurance database so if you get stopped there is a good chance your car will be impounded most police dont give 7 days to produce anymore.

I know the above will be argued with but if your are not sure dont drive untill you have spoken to your own insurance.

You cannot EVER drive an uninsured car on public roads. Not even 3rd party on another car's insurance.

You are wrong on this one. Depending on the wording of your policy you can, it all depends on your policy wording. Not all policies are the same...it has been discussed on this forum before.

There was a new law being consulted on (by government DFT) which would make it illegal, but unless you know different that law has not yet been commenced.

OP should buy insurance, tax, then cancel insurance within 14days for a full refund, just be careful to read the insurers small print (policy) to make sure there is no admin charge for canceling within the 14 days. The car cannot be stored in a public place without insurance - you will get fined - not towed ;)

    .

Except that there is no law which will allow a car that is parked (only by reason of being uninsured) to be towed.

You can avoid paying for temporary insurance.

Take out a policy with RAC. Get the certificate.

    Tax the car.

Then cancel the policy. RAC allow you to cancel within 14 days without penalty (as long as you haven't made a claim).
