Taxing a car for sale with no insurance

Hi
We have a car that has been off the road for a few months as my husband needed to do some work on it and we are planning to sell it. The work is now done and the car has passed an MOT. I did not renew the insurance on it as I thought that as we were selling it it wouldn't be worth it and I could drive it 3rd party on my other car's insurance if I needed to. My husband is adamant we need to tax it to get it sold but I've just realised we can't tax it without insurance can we?
Any advice as to what's best to do? If someone want to test drive the car it will need tax.
Thanks

You cannot EVER drive an uninsured car on public roads. Not even 3rd party on another car's insurance. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

When I needed to tax a new car I took out a days cover where you print your own cert and used that to tax it. It was a good job as my insurer took over a week to send the cert (despite managing to send a breakdown cover quote for my new car in 2 days!).
No doubt some people will say that you can use a day insurance cert or print your own off. but I have had no problems doing it twice now - and one of those times is was at the DVLA centre in Leeds as I also had to change the tax class.
After going through quidco it only cost me £8 as well.0 -

I think not. Check if you will. Start by reading the appropriate clause on your own policy.
The first thing you will find is that the car in question cannot be your own, second it must be insured in it's owners name to use the clause.
I repeat , You cannot ever drive an uninsured vehicle on public roads. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

So how do the Motor Trade manage?
My policy hasn't got that clause I've checked by reading the policy and with the company.;)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

My policy says that I can drive another car as long as it isn't mine and with the owners permission - it doesn't mention anywhere about it needing to be insured by them.0
