    Sorry for any confusion.

The charges that you pay depend on YOUR provider, so you would need to check their tariff, but in general geographic numbers are better (cheaper) than 0845, 0844, 0870, 0870 and you should avoid 09 numbers like the plague (premium rate).

Try to avoid the 08 numbers by using
    https://www.saynoto0870.com

In general they won't break the bank (unless holding for long periods) but many people object to paying (especially when it's a problem not of your making) so it's a "principle thing".

The 09 numbers are often something like £1.50 per minute, so to enter a competition can cost in the region of £10.

    ah Cahoot

on the phone you're rude and unhelpful - your email replies are often baffling

whenever i phoned you refused to answer my question and said to look on the website - and then advertised your telephone number on posters all over the tube network.

    BUT

your website work's really quite well, which is v important for an internet bank.

    THAT SAID

I closed my account and looked elsewhere after you charged me for going over my overdraft limit.

I pointed out it had never happened in the past 5 years since i opened the account, was an accident, and I'd only just reduced the limit voluntarily due to getting robbed blind up to the previous limit - you said 'previous overdraft limits aren't relevant'

I pointed out all the 'not legal' stuff - you said it was a 'business decision'

    SO

first direct don't have great rates, and they do the tricksy accounts, but at least they're nice to you when you call up - that's what i pay for
