    Well done, thats fantastic!

Tell me if I'm being nosy but have you found it easy or have you sacrificed a lot? I feel sometimes like in order to save, I have to miss out on things...

Also, it's nice to see a few around my age. Anyone saving for a house?

    Congrats loumac, a great achievement!

£200 to add to savings now salary has landed in main account :j. I'm wondering if we can make £20K this year... that would be AMAZING!

claire - good luck for house savings, there are a few diaries on the MFW board for people saving for a house - I like KolaKube's. I've been saving for our loft conversion, which has now started and is depleting our funds extremely quickly!

I've managed a £750 payment to Virgin today so that's going to be gone in 1 month's time and will make 5 debts cleared in 2010 which I'm very pleased with.

If I'm very careful with my money until payday (still 18 days away) I might be able to pay another £50 to bring Virgin down to £300.

And my Christmas shopping is almost done entirely from savings and vouchers obtained throughout the year by doing online surveys so for once, nothing will be going on the credit card this year :)

Right, off to enjoy the fireworks tonight.

We sacrificed a hell of a lot in the beginning and it was a shock to our systems because we'd just spent as we pleased. We had the LBM before we got into any kind of financial difficulties though, so it a lot of ways we had it much easier and it was just a case of tightening our belts and living like students for a while!

It got easier after a few months when we got used to the new regime. We also had a massive boost when we got a lump of money earlier this year from some stock options.

We've actually had a really good year, and are in the process of buying a flat right now!

I'm on one hand really, really excited and on the other feel a bit sick at the amount of money we are spending (London prices )! I think I've gotten a bit too MSE!

I've not really continued to update this challenge, as we hit it very early in the year from the lump sum... Hope everyone is doing well!

  • Claire - the plan was to start saving for a deposit as soon as I hit debt free-ness, but I've changed my life priorities a bit and am now saving to soften the blow of a job change that will hopefully happen next year.

  • Hi everyone, not posted in absolutely ages, but still reading everyones updates. What a wee flurry of activity the past few days! Unfortunately I have fallen off the wagon big style, and have added to my debts :-( but I am still trying and hope to get back on track. The main problem has been a bathroom refurb, which has grown arms and legs and although my oh and I have done nearly all of the work ourselves inc plumbing, electrics and tiling, it has cost a small fortune. Huge congrats to all who have made and exceeded the target, wow, inspiring reading your posts guys!
I will update my sig when I can face it - gulp, I am dreading it ..............

Claire - It has been hard! But equally I know we could actually do better.

We got married last year and most of our payments have been towards paying associated debts off (oh and we treated ourselves to a honeymoon). :o

We want to save for a house but need to clear debts first. We're lucky that we can pay fairly large amounts towards debts each month as my OH moved into my flat which has quite a low mortgage. However, there's no equity in it to help us get somewhere bigger. So money is constantly on our thoughts to try and move on!
Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...

Thanks to everyone who replied! It is a shock to the system. I freely spent for several years after finishing my first degree, and when I started saving I couldn't belive how much I frittered away.

I now go into clothes shops and whereas before, I'd buy lots of things just 'because', now I don't. I prefer to see my savings grow (albeit slowly ;))

I daren't add up what I could have had as a deposit if I had started saving straight after uni...

It's reassuring to hear others are in the same boat.

Thanks! I found the diary and have read with interest. :)

I'd love a loft conversion... hope all is going well.
  • Well - I did it - have reached £10995 paid off this year - challenge complete and still 2 months to go. I have a big loan that now only has 8 payments left so by next July will be nearly 400 per month better off and can really start hammering the credit cards down.

    Onwards and upwards
Back to comping! July wins: Frylight August wins: Pixar DVD, Diesel Watch,£75 hamper brioche products September wins bath soak
