That's still an NI plate. 3 letters is characteristic of NI, and can be followed by 1-4 numbers. Most common is 4 numbers though. Anything with 3 is held back and sold at a premium.

Not always, 3 letters with 3 numbers were issued here prior to 1963, as were 4 numbers followed by 2 letters, I have one of the latter on retention.
  • If your looking for something cheap then an Irish number is definitely up your street.

They usually contain letters like Z's and X's (which no one wants) like BJZ 8763 or TZX 2997 etc.

Only problem is that the transfer fee usually costs more than the plate and expect to wait AGES for everything to complete!:D

They won't have a Z as the middle letter - they either have I as the middle letter or Z as the third letter. As far as I know they're no more likely to have an X than a GB plate is.

Sure but most cars get facelifts every 2 or 3 years so its likely a few people will notice the car is an 04 model rather than 07 and ask whats up with the reg.

These are not Irish number plates - they're from Northern Ireland.

Ebay - I bought one a few months back for £51 which included the £80 transfer fee! You have to be lucky to get a bargain like that though, but worth perservering. It was T (single number) and three letters.

Well you can't make your car look younger than it is, so more than likely it will be obvious that the plate is a private one and has some meaning to the driver/owner.
