Personalised Plates

Can anyone please advise what is the cheapest place to obtian personalised number plates? I don't want anything special - I just want to conceal the age of the car. I don't want the phyisical plates and fitting included - I will get them made and fitted locally but I want all the necessary fees included. Currently on an 04 plate.

Direct from DVLA. I doubt you'll be able to conceal the age of the car without spending £1000s though. You won't be able to put an 05/06/07etc plate on it.

Yeah Lee as alias said, you can't put a plate on the car to make it appear newer than it is.

DVLA will sell you plates for £250 but they will be standard style, with a prefix. So would indicate an age - albeit an older one than the car is.

Why do you want to conceal its age anyway? The registration document will always show its true age so it sounds like you're going to be wasting your money on nothing.

The cheapest way of concealing the age of a vehicle is to buy ex Northern Ireland plates, they don't have any age related numbers or letters.

They are usually available from the number plate retailers at minimum cost.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like NI plates are the way to go. I know you can't put plates on that make the car look newer, I just want rid of the prefix plates. I bought the car about six months ago and it previously had private plates but these had been removed. Condition wise it looks like a new car in and out and I will be keeping it for several years as its currently got low milage.

Used them, very happy.

Other companies offer to sell what are on the DVLA website but with their markup.

Easiest way is to go direct.

Northern Island Number Plates are controlled by the NI DVA Tel: 0845 4024000 County Hall, Castlerock Road, Coleraine, County Londonderry, BT51 3TB

Perhaps they can give/send you a list of reputable dealers. (Unlike the DVLA i dont think they sell them direct unless they are cherished.)

You don't need to get NI plates to hide the age of a car. Most on-line number plate sellers have a search function specifically for this kind of thing. Having done a quick search in Google, you can typically get three letters and four numbers starting from £125.

Three letters and four numbers?

I think they may well be NI plates.
