  • good god, lifes too short, put it in dont pull the trigger
  • ^^^ Lol is it just me or is there a lot of non-issues being raised on here recently.

I always just put the nozzle in hold it down, swear at the machine while it fannies about resetting to zero (patience is not one of my virtues) then away you go.

I've never had the situation where it hasn't reset and i've added to someone elses fuel.
If i ever do through some freak accident i'm sure a rational explanation at the kiosk will suffice. E.g. My car has 50 litre tank how do you think i managed to get 90 litres in it.

I think you are both taking jobsworth attitudes.

The staff because the pump is still running when you remove the nozzle from your car, so their safety argument falls down there but it does cut down the hazard by 50%.

You because there's no way you would be charged for the previous persons fuel. As the other guy said if you are really worried, put it in your car and put your hands on the roof of the car or in your pockets or on your head until they reset the pump.

There is a good argument for reseting the pump to zero when the fuel is paid for - just makes sense.

You've read this wrong Wig, the OP was objecting to the non zeroing before she bought fuel, rather than the cutting off of the bill that you see.

But it is however a more valid point in my view, many times I've taken a last look at the pump as I walked away and read it at £20-05 then got to the kiosk to have to pay £20-o6??
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Every time i fill up at Morrison's i get it right on the number, say £40 then when i shake the nozzle to get the drops it adds another penny on. No other garage that i know of does that.

get it to 39.99 then shake?

I can see why the OP may have some concerns. I remember previously going to a garage and filling my car with diesel, and then a fuel can with petrol, using the one pump, and without having to pay between switching, so in theory it is a possibility. However, in most places, if you put the nozzle in and then wait, you're generally fine.

  • if it really is possible to be landed with the previous user's bill at the petrol station then wait until someone fills up with £10 worth, then put in a full tank in yours and you'll only pay £10!!!! :)

You may not have had to pay, but the pump would have been reset if for no other reason than diesel is usually a different price.

Looks like you got a decent operator who saw what you were doing and so reset the pump despite you not having paid.

Of course it burns but only once its hot enough. Diesel is made of very long molecules which require a lot of energy in the form of heat to break up (i.e. burn). If you just chucked a lit match at cold diesel nothing would happen.

Kerosine is the same from what I remember working at the airport. Still not advised, both only ignite under pressure.
  • Don't worry about it...

I'm intrigued to know how this would work?
