margate town is v v cheap but you would have to wait for it to 'pick up' as has been planned for the past 20 years. however move a bit either west or east, to either westbrook, westgate or cliftonville and you would pay a bit more but be in a much nicer location

Thanks, funnily enough it's actually Cliftonville that I have my eye on (I thought that was just a suburb of Margate) it seems to have nicer properties, a short walk to the beach(s) including one or two that allow dogs on unrestricted all year. Plus it's within walking distance of the indoor bowls club. This move is quite a few years off so there is plenty of time to refine our ideas and we are also thinking of Devon (possibly Paignton). I think Devon would be better but it's also possible that we might just hang on to one or two of our london properties beyond retirement and although Margate isn't that convenient it is do-able whereas Devon is not. Additionally my wife's parents live in London, so although Margate (Cliftonville) is probably second to Paignton in isolation, it does have it's advantages over Paignton specific to our circumstances.

I think Mrs Donaldson may be telling porkies when she says she has spent £200k on doing that house up.

Yes I agree now that I have seen the details. Without seeing the details I was struggling to see how they could have extended/refurbished it for 200k and had value. After seeing the details just can't see how they could have spent 200k even getting bad value. It doesn't look extended on the ground floor, so it might have been a loft extension but then I find myself asking how would the house cost 365k if it only comprised of the ground floor (which was in need of a refurb). Obviously the triple garage is new but that isn't going to make much inroads into the 200k.

well the cliftonville avenues are lovely and its only minutes walk to the beach, further back on the other side of the northdown road its even quieter, houses are a bit less than the 'avenues' and v nice

we're in broadstairs although we initially planned for birchington

On one hand I agree. Besides, this house looks so bland that a new owner will need to spend a bit to make it less beige

On the other hand, she could have overpay for everything.
Please bear in mind that she's (was) probably a bored executive's wife who had an army of 'designers' helping her out
I'm sure that she paid 3X more than most people would ;-)

    Or the money went elsewhere...

OK - be honest - would anyone here want to buy this place, or think it looked nice? I'm not a fan of modern properties in general, but even taking that into account...it just looks so soulless.

And frankly, if they've spent 200K, could they not afford a proper kitchen table?

It's located right by (on!) the busy A20 London Road - not a great place to live!
Didn't notice that!!! There are several villages just off the A20 you would pay good money to live in, but not on the road itself. Must be just within the parish boundary or something.
    Been away for a while.
