Last time I bought meat in Tesco (two expensive steaks) when I opened them, the one under the label was green and stinking - I had everyting else cooking and had to dash to Tesco and get them swapped - the steak still wasn't good quality, although it wasnt rotten - but when I was choosing the replacement steaks I noticed several other packs on the shelves looked off..
That is why it was the last time I shopped there.
Lidl (and Aldi) do nice free range chickens, and I have never had an off one yet. Apart from that, I buy the rest of my meat at an excellent quality butchers - most items are far cheaper than supermarket places too, and it has never been off!!
The quick answer is to stop buying from Tesco, their food is overpriced and poor quality.0 -
To be fair... I jumped on this thread as a result of OlliesDad's comment calling someone and Ignorant snob.... Totally uncalled for!!
My throwaway tongue in cheek comment in #6 seems to have ignited the class divide.
I wouldn't shop in Aldi or Lidl... because the shops are sh!te. Cheap unheard of tat wheeled out on the palletron and just abandoned where is stops.
Give me Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, M&S etc.. any day.0 -

Why do you think emoticons are provided?
The fact that both Lidl and Aldi have won prizes for the quality of their food suggests that just because they don't have a brand name doesn't mean it's poor quality.
Oddly I've always found that Chavs tend to very brand concious...Either that or Hyacinth Bucket wannabes, ah no wait a minute she's from a council estate background and just happened to marry a nice middle class bloke
I know doctors, university professors... who happily shop at Aldi/Lidl, not exactly your typical uneducated chav eh?"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -

Tesco do two steaks with a peppercorn sauce for £3 orSPECIAL OFFER IN BIG YELLOW SHELF EDGE LABEL 2 for a fiver.
The butcher near me sells bigger sirloins for less, individually, no gimmicks, cut straight from the beast without the vacuum packing or the condescending labels.0 -
I think this whole "supermarket wars" thing has got completely out of hand.
People seem to be forgetting that supermarkets aren't some great uncle who will look after us if we are loyal.
They are big, mean companies who will do anything, no matter how underhanded, to get your business.
Nice to see the "clubcard offers" have roped some people in to the "Uncle Tesco" mindset...
Personally, in my opinion, each supermarket has something good to offer.
Lidl/ Aldi are brilliant for certain foods.
Great for continental foods such as Parma Ham and cooked meats, fruit juices and certain alcoholic drinks, you try and get Parma ham for £1.50 in one of the big supermarkets! You can't! Their own-brand Baileys Irish Cream is also great, and Aldi have some stonking deals on fresh fruit and veg. Also some quality unbranded toileteries in Aldi. Aldi and Lidl also have some FANTASTIC frozen food such as ready meals and pizzas.
However their fresh, raw meat is not the best quality, most of it being Irish or Dutch. The lack of choice does also impact immensely when looking at things like Nappies, bleach, that sort of thing. I generally dont do my weekly shop at Aldi because their nappies are poor quality, and certain things are overpriced compared to "budget" supermarket brands e.g. bleach, cheese etc.
All the other supermarkets, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, (dont shop at Sainsburys as don't have one locally) are pretty much of a muchness.
To suggest that "only benefit scroungers" shop at Lidl/ Aldi is completely absurd.
All the supermarkets have their own positives/ negatives, and TBH blindly supporting one over any other just demonstrates the extent to which you have been brainwashed by the adverts!
Its the people that take advantage of ALL the supermarkets who are the ones who benefit the most!
Morrisons has some brilliant BOGOF and Half Price deals which put the others to shame, but does have a lack of choice in some areas.
Tesco has definitely gone down in my estimations in recent years. I find that they aren't competitive on certain goods, and IMVHO their "Value" range is a lot lower quality than the other supermarkets.
Personally I find ASDA to be the best "all rounder".0 -
Not wishing to conduct ones weekly shop surrounded by Chavs and benefit cheats does not make one a snob!!
I swear I must be the only person who saw this as a joke
I almost took it seriously though, then I thought better of it.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0
