Matt, you should take court action. I think that you will lose, but at least you will know for sure that you are in the wrong rather than bleat on here.

I have just had an extension built by Accepta and they are the nicest guys I have ever met.

They beat my other lowest quote by £4,000 (yes £4,000) and the job was done brilliantly and was finished in just 12 weeks. My other builder was taliking about 30-35 weeks and suggested that we moved out.

I asked my Project Manager about your complaints on this site and he said that he didn't know anything about it, but he seemed really proud to be part of Accepta.

I asked him if he had to take a test and he said that he did and passed with a 90% mark. He was only a young lad and I will not mention his name, to save any embarrassement, but he was brilliant.

If Accepta have a strict employment policy but do works to the highest quality for less money and in a shorter time period then I am sorry Matt, but the consumer ultimately benefits.
With your talk of fraud above, I am extremely pleased that firms such as Accepta have such a brilliant vetting system to remove you before ever meeting any potential customers/consumers.

Thank you Accepta. I am not a rich man and the £massive saving has allowed me a little working capital in these troubled times.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

As far as I can see, they are only a plc so that they look like an important company (presumably also why they use an American name).

I can't find a website for them, and their registered office is a residential address in Rossendale.

What kind of mega multinational corporation is run by a teenager and his mum from the back bedroom?

    Definitely one to be avoided.

  • Hi everyone,

It seems that my partner fell for the above scam, he handed over £3000 for the training he has never received. His wage has bounced by cheque 3 times with this company and no one is communicating and letting him know when he will receive his june monthly wage which weare still waiting for. They keep telling him to wait for this mysterious director that no one knows of.. We are completely stuck as to what to do from here as we do not think we will get the 3k back. Does anyone have any advice or help they can offer please?

    Thank you
  • Hi clobo

Only just saw your post so probably way too late -

If you haven't done so already get to the CAB AND your local trading standards with all the info you have - possibly the police but it may well be legal - however weird that seems - and yet still a scam.

I am really sorry that you've had this experience - I came accross this a few months ago when someone I knew was also about to part with a wad of cash in exchange for such promises - fortunately he was dissuaded.

As a general rule if I was invited to pay up front for a promise of work then I would assume a scam until I discovered otherwise.

Its really easy to set up a company / companies and you don't have to register accounts with Companies House for 18 months or so. Also even a PLC just costs 12.5k up front as paid up share capital to set up so this is absolutely NO guarantee of a legit Company. You really need to research these things thoroughly - Companies House searches usually costs a pound per item and its relatively easy to see if a Company a) has been going any significant length of time b) has been trading. A new Company with no accounts submitted should be a first warning bell. Also, you can usually see if a Company has been trading by net searches. Finally, there is nothing like just phoning as a prospective customer ( not as a job applicant ) to get a feel for what gives. Any reputable Company would be more than happy to at least give you some idea of its past customer portfolio / jobs its completed. You can then follow these up by phone. Finally web sites are easy to put up and domain names are cheap. You are unlikely to find too much on the web - in particular, some people are quite aggressive in getting postings taken down from forums to protect their enterprises.
  • I have just learnt of this website and couldnt believe my eyes when reading about the problems people are facing with a scam company called accepta reality they are now called accepta build , i went for interview at their office in nov 2009 and was offered the job of trainee quantity surveyor , they asked me for a contribution to college fees because they was paying 2 thirds the course was suposed to start in sept 2010 ,i could not start the job until i paid this £3,000 , so i talked my mother into borrowing me it as i was unemployed at the time ,my mother very kindly obliged as she was trying to help me get a well respected job , so i started in march 2010 and for a month or so everything was going fine until alarm bells started to ring with me as i needed information on the course so i could apply for a proffessional careera developement loan to pay my mum back ,every time i asked for this information i was getting no response , i was employed on a salary of £12,000 so from march till june i was paid £3,000 in wages but very convieniently i was then told i was going on commission only as from june with no contract change , so in theory i paid my own wages for 3 months , me and 15 other new starters are fighting to get our £3,000 back but banging are heads against a brick wall , ive explained everything to the police and trading standards and they dont want to know even tho the so called director mr shaun kiely who apparently cannott be a company director is known to trading standards ,they are telling me to go down the route of employment law , but this guy has obtained money by deception and also i have in my possession a fraudulently signed cheque in the name of shaun kielys daughter who is classed as a director and is 19 yrs old , this guy is shaun kiely is described by previous newspaper reports as a modern day adolf hitler , and if your reading this mr kiely we are not going away .p.s for anybodys information its not just accepta build you need to be wary of its a so called outside training body which is run by shaun kiely as this is were your money goes this company is called SLQUANTITY SURVEYORS , this is who you have to pay your college contribution to ,this is shaun kielys bank account .

If you've managed to get 3k back from them albeit before tax in wages? then you've done better than most. From my investigations, it appears that the scam - using two Companies - is probably legal though obviously immoral. I wish you luck but be careful - they have more money than you to pay for lawyers. From my limited experience, employment tribunals may give you the most sympathetic hearing and don't cost too much.
  • Hi,

Apologies if I have missed someone else's reply - I have not read all responses. This sounds like a bit of a scam/questionnable business practices. Suggest you contact Consumer Direct (do google search), this is quite complicated so unlikely they will give further advice other than to raise an actio in the small claim court but they will log and forward case to your local trading standards. Chances are there will have been other reports about this company and the more complaints there are the more likely TS will take action.

    Good luck.

    Hi Clobo,

In response to your message, you may have been told that the company is 'venture capital backed' - What a load of todge if I do not say so myself - and that the director(s) are "paid with a clean credit history" - this is a fact as it is [Removed] (Shaun's 19 year old daughter).

Depending on when your fella joined he may be under the contract that will state something along the lines of after termination of contract of employment/this agreement by the employer you are entitled to the funds in 6 months time.

Others who joined Accepta much earlier (December 09, Jan 10, Feb10) will notice that no period of time is noted at all in your contracts! So long as you, like myself, have not agreed to nor signed any declarations stating you have agreed to or have been recipient of any form of training or education and Accepta terminated your contract, you are entitled to your funds! By termination of contract, this includes if you have been placed on a commission only deal! Termination can be validated by your PAYE contributions and the fact that they have no documents from you to support the probable case of Accepta saying that an employee had terminated the agreement.

Quite complex but if you look and read carefully at the signed agreements, you will find just as many holes in it as I have!!!

Problem is just getting a response from the business!
