Be aware that there are 2 different type of touch screens: resistive and capacitive.
Resistive is the type most people will think of - you need to tap or press a bit hard (hence why a stylus is usually provided). Basically there's 2 layers, when you tap on it, the 2 layers come in contact and respond.
Capacitive is the screen on the iphone, htc HD2 and a few others, on these you need to "brush" with the finger tip (not tap), a bit like the touchpad on a laptop. They have some conductive material under the screen that uses residual current from your finger so you can't use a normal stylus and they also won't work if you're wearing very thick gloves as the current can't get through. With these you can use hand gestures like flick scroll or pinch zoom. They do take a bit of getting used to but I personally like them.0 -
Samsungs - S5600 for example, are the latter. Many say these are the superior option rather than having to press on, but that's subjective.
I personally find normal buttons to be faster than touchscreen, especially as after a number of years, I can now text whilst walking down the street without looking at the buttons.
You get used to it fast enough though I guess.
Querty keyboards, on such a small interface, it astounds me how anyone can use them. The whole idea is to be able to touchtype with a querty - and you can't do that with a phone!0 -
I used to have an LG Viewty which was touchscreen and wasn't a fan...now have an HTC hero which is also touchscreen and love it - much more responsive, very intuitive, etc.0

It definitely depends on the model. The new iPhone 3GS touch screen is brilliant. I don't have one but have used my friends to send texts and generally play around on. I really want one! Going to have to work for a few more weeks before I can afford it!

Personally i dont like them, my Bf has the Samsung Jet and i hate having to use it! The touch screen seems too sensitive and its too easy to do something you didnt mean to do. But then again i have a phone with a QWERTY keypad and he hates that, but i love it.
Its all personal taste, id suggest you go into a phone shop and have a fiddle with some to see what you think.0 -
It's all on personal preferences, I also have the cookie, and prefer to select the keyboard for writing texts as I can type a lot faster than i can text using numbers.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
