It would appear that she is on benefit and it is her partner who has the £10,000.
I don't read that the same way. I thought that Jeny was answering an accusation, which is why she wrote - and no, I haven't been working whilst on benefits.
I don't read that as her saying she IS on benefits.
Since none of us actually KNOW whether she is on benefits or not, maybe we should just all let it go and stop posting replies based on our assumptions?
(Edit: That was a general comment and not aimed at missile in particular.)0 -
I do agree with you we should not make assumptions. I have no axe to grind and was merely debating the issues in what I hope was a reasonable manner.
As you will no doubt have noticed(?) in my first post I did try to offer Jeny constructive advice."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Oh, of course, I understand you completely now. So people who live in council houses are somehow not allowed to save. And those that do, just must be doing something dodgy...
And this from the person who demanded the OP to "get some morals".
What was your point again?
Everyone needs something to believe in.
I believe I need another beer.0 -
People in council houses should be the truly needy, not those who are able to save whilst on benefits or be able to buy their own house. What happens to the next needy person/family that comes along if all the council houses have been sold? When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0

I entirely agree. However, past governments have decreed that council homes can be bought for ownership, and since this is a free market, the law allows the buying tenants to have a very good deal.
Those who feel strongly that this is wrong should campaign to change the law, not pour venom onto those who go about their business legally, particularly when rash assumptions are made and then end up being taken as fact.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Bernard's listed some of the spite and disgusting comments thrown about but when it comes to a poster wishing cancer on the OPs children - then pass the puke bowl, it's below contempt. This really is the worst thread I've ever seen on MSE - FOR PURE, UNADULTERATED HATRED. SOME OF YOU OUGHT TO BE VERY ASHAMED BUT FROM YOUR PREVIOUS EFFORTS - I SOMEHOW DOUBT IT.
Rachman had a ring to it and seemed relevant - I suppose I could have picked Booth or Rowntree or Lord Leverhulme had I felt magnanimous.
I don't disagree with you about some of the vitriol, it was also, in my view worthy of deletion and nothing else.
I had tried to offer some productive advice, but that seemed to be ignored as people assumed they had read properly what I had posted, but there you go.
In any event, must go, a little old lady is two days late with her rent (council have mucked up her benefit cheques) and I have to go run over her West Highland Terrier and feed its flattened corpse to my pirahna. If you don't treat 'em mean, they will take liberties and I can't afford to keep on paying Knuckles to crack heads, he's an IFA now and I can't afford his rates any more.0 -
I am absolutely HORRIFIED AND APPALLED at this thread. There have been extremely cruel and downright sickening things posted to Jeny. And as for wishing her children to get cancer?! Whats wrong with you people? Can you not understand how much hurt and despair you have caused this woman through your assumptions? The poster, in case you haven't realised, is a REAL PERSON, FLESH AND BLOOD, SAME AS YOU, not just words on a screen and should have been treated with respect no matter what her circumstances. How dare you all publicly SLATE and RIP TO PIECES someone you do not know, about a situation you know nothing about? This is meant to be a helpful website for people in need, not the jerry springer show. This post is a digraceful and should be deleted permanently by the moderators.
And on one final note, whether Jeny was ripping benefits of or not, buying house immorally or not, NOBODY deserves to be spoken to in this manner.
Moderators, could I kindly request that this thread is removed from public view and the agrressors are reprimanded in some way for their attacks on this poor individual.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Thankyou MortgageMamma for your comments and too those who have offered constructive advice (which ever way it was expressed)
I just wanted to say to you all that (as you have wished ill of my child) that he indeed is sick, he has a heart defect and without a replacement will die so your wish may come true..
And as for the 10,000 it is my partners with he had before we got together and i didnt see fit to go robbing him of it because he started living with me..
I live in a council house because it is much safer renting with the council or housing association than it is renting a private landlord (things get fixed, and you won't get chucked out at a moments notice), and it is close to family..
I never realised there was such a huge problem about lack of council housing and it's not my fault that the govenment see fit to sell them off.. ( and by the way i am planning in staying in my house till it falls down!!, dont know if that will make a difference to you) I'm sorry that i got an opportunity to buy a cheap run down house.
This post was my first, and because i thought this site was a friendly, helpful place i thought it was the best place to ask, surely i can't be the first person to ask?! but i hope i am the last..
Lets see how much you slate me for this reply?!
I haven't done anything wrong

Hi Jeny
Try not to let the harsh posts of these thoughtless and nasty people get to you. Really, I'm sure a moderator will come along and see this thread and it will be deleted as I've asked, as it is outside the site rules to allow this sort of thing to happen. If you need help I will answer any questions you have on a personal basis, and hopefully this will go some way to putting right what these people have done/said. I'm sure any of the other advisors on here will help you too if you approach them.
I'm sorry to hear about your sons illness, I have children too, and I know its every mothers worst nightmare to have one of her children ill. My little boy got very poorly straight after he was born and it nearly finished me off. I cant imagine how that must be day after day for you. You must be a very strong person.
Try and keep your chin up, if you can buy your house then go for it, ballcocks to what anybody else thinks, what goes on in your four walls is YOUR business not anyone elses.
Try to have a good day.
