Rachman wrote:This is the stuff I really object to, taking assets on the cheap that the tenant has not really paid for (council rent is NOT the cost of owning or running a home) - then buying at a discount for the privilege - why ?
Seriously, if you have the ability to save £10K whilst with no declared income or income at a level that you don't want to declare it, why are we paying benefits ? I am sure you may be genuine, but the smell is of working the system - I hope it's not as I work too hard for my money for other people to milk it.
Well, if this is you sitting on the fence, I bet we've all got to watch for splinters. Or perhaps you let someone else post for you?Everyone needs something to believe in.
I believe I need another beer.0 -
In my time on MSE I have never been so appauled by people behaviour. You lot must have really twisted and bitter minds god help any of your kids growing up, I only hope they dont get any of your traits. I am so sickened right now I can hardly put words together. You should all be ashamed.
Whats to say she hasnt lived there all her life (like I have) paid all her rent (like I have) and probably paid the houses worth in rent. And who's to say she isnt self employed working her !!! off (like I am) and simply cant prove her income. And who is to say that she is only in it for the profit. I for one if I was to buy my council house would buy it to keep for ever and live here to the day I die.
And people wonder why their is little faith in human nature, people just want to put others down if they get something better than they did. I bet (although you wont admit it) that if your EA said "heres 25% off your value if you want it" you would all snap it up in a shot, so theres not much comparison is there.
jeny, I can only hope that this lot of narrow minded people have not scared you off what should be a caring and welcoming site.
Let it be remembered that the owner of the site itself says "Be nice to ALL moneysavers"Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Rachman, I don't suppose you've chosen that user name because it belongs to one of the vilest slum landlords of the 1960's who thought breaking legs and heads was legitimate enforcement of unpaid rent?
This is a moneysaving site - a right to buy discount is moneysaving. If you don't agree with it, take it up with the government instead of villifying the OP [or any other poster for that matter]. They allow it, only they can change it.
The OP has now gone and the message she left is a very sad indictment on some posters on this thread. But from memory she NEVER said she was on benefit, only that she couldn't prove income and that she had a lump sum. Quite a leap for some posters to make, IGNORE THE FACTS - LETS JUST SPIT OUT VENOM AND BILE.
Bernard's listed some of the spite and disgusting comments thrown about but when it comes to a poster wishing cancer on the OPs children - then pass the puke bowl, it's below contempt. This really is the worst thread I've ever seen on MSE - FOR PURE, UNADULTERATED HATRED. SOME OF YOU OUGHT TO BE VERY ASHAMED BUT FROM YOUR PREVIOUS EFFORTS - I SOMEHOW DOUBT IT.0 -
I share Ian W's sentiments entirely. It is ludicrous to draw conclusions by not paying attention to the facts. Moreover, wishing those horrible things on the OP show the thinking of a very low mentality, doubly so because it highlights the cowardice of someone who would not have the guts to spew such venom by putting his/her real name to it.
Could not the OP have been politely questioned? And if it emerged that she was indeed on benefit, a civil and reasoned reminder that the poster did not approve of this situation would have been enough.
I guess it's easier for some unfortunate people to vent their own frustrations on others (especially anonymously) rather than read properly and think before speaking.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
no i havn't been working while on benefits
Where does she say she's not on benefits? She just states as above. You lot must have really twisted and bitter minds god help any of your kids growing up, I only hope they dont get any of your traits.
Well, I'd rather my child had my traits of working hard to get what you want in life than the op's apparent 'handed to on a plate' lifestyle. Does that make me a bad person? When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0 -
And where does it say she is?Where does she say she's not on benefits? She just states as above.
Guilty until proven innocent?
The rush to judgement and condemnation about the OP having things handed to her on a plate -that is a huge leap, there wasn't enough posted to jump to that conclussion - probably does. Working hard is a good thing, being jealous and spiteful, isn't IMO.Well, I'd rather my child had my traits of working hard to get what you want in life than the op's apparent 'handed to on a plate' lifestyle. Does that make me a bad person?0 -

Yes if they are as judegmental as you are.
You tell me where she said she has had an easy life and I will shut up.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Bernard_Coleslaw wrote:No, you don't have to be sensitive, if that's really so against your principles.
But it's really going to help if you try and read some posts, once in a while.
The OP is not on benefits, kapische?
And whilst you may have a point about council tenancies, that's no excuse for the personal nature of posts made to the OP. Or do you not think we need to be civil with each other here?
Hi Bernard,
I am in agreement with you, I did not critiscise her and do not agree with the spiteful comments however I think you may have missunderstood, what she said?

It would appear that she is on benefit and it is her partner who has the £10,000. Personally I have no problem with that. However I do have a problem with a live in partner who is working whilst she has been claiming benefit, then buying "their" council house. However only Jeny knows whether her circumstances really are"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Good grief are some of you STILL trying to shout the odds over this? :rotfl:
This thread is a classic example of how mass hysteria spreads. No point in reading the OP's words properly, just go with the flow and jump on the accusatory bandwagon. :rotfl: Silly people.
I'm embarrassed for you.
To the OP, please don't let this put you off visiting the site. I can't help with your question I'm afraid but there are plenty helpful people around and you might get the advice you originally asked for in the first place.
(There's something in the back of my mind about the Council themselves helping with mortgages for people who can't get a mortgage through the normal channels. It's only a vague memory I have from reading through a friend's paperwork and I don't know if it was just certain councils or a scheme all of them ran, but it might be worth phoning them and putting a hypothetical question to them about it?)0
