I've decided to ask permission. Fingers crossed I'll get it and it is actually possible to fit a meter!

I think you may be out of luck with that clause in the agreement.
8.5 tamper with the water, telephone, gas or electricity systems and installations serving the Premises; or
    Try this clause:

8.6 to change the gas, electric, water or telephone supplier (including change of telephone number assigned) to the Premises without the consent of the Landlord, which will not be unreasonably withheld; or

  • Interestingly, on the subject of Wessex Water bills....

I am on a meter with Wessex Water and after receiving a high bill recently, I decided to compare bills with my parents who are with Bournemouth & Hants Water.

I was surprised to find Wessex charge around 170 pence per unit/cubic meter and Bmth & Hants only around 102 pence.

That would certainly contribute to the higher bills.

I'm not sure why Wessex charge considerable more.... but I'm sure they would have a good go at justifying it!!

(think I'll move back to Bournemouth and save money!)

Don't move too far West of Bournemouth into South West water's area or you will find you are paying £4.45 per cubic metre for water and sewerage plus £60 pa in standing charges.!
  • hi everyone, sorry to post my problem here because i cant find how to post it, really sorry.
i have a problem with severn trent water. Me and my wife have moved into the flat on 15th sept 08 and we received the bill from severn trent water 15/09/08 to 11/05/09 :£215.99and from 11/05/09 to 18/11/09: £187.66. Total 14 months is £403.65. they just asked us for the reading in the recent days to estimate what we used in the past while we have a baby now who was born on 02/04/09. Before that, we both worked full time, we just used water at night time , 1 or 2 washing a week maximum and 2 baths a week maximum. its really unfair for us because they cant take the reading of 3 people using the water instead of 2 people. we tried to explain to them many times but it seems they dont understand us. We dont know what to do, can you give us any advice pls??

thanks a lots for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.

What is not clear from your post is why they want readings from you to estimate.

You have been billed from the day you moved in(15/09/08) to 18/11/09 so was this not based on meter readings?

Are you sure Severn Trent haven't estimated the readings and they want your present reading see if their estimate is correct?

My bill is £18 to BWH for the water and £38 to Wessex Water for 'services'. This is £56 a month just for a small 2 bedroom unmetered flat in Bournemouth town centre. Something is wrong here, right?

Nope..If it is unmetered then you are being billed on RV and that will be right, even if it was wrong you couldn't prove it anyway.
