i spent months feeling guilty and letting people go in front of me, but not one of them ever appreciated - so now they can wait.

Went today at 4.50pm and not a soul in sight!

Staff member said how unexpectedly busy it was today-not helped by a customer who dropped his parcels off in the morning. Took her 90 minutes to process his items and filled 3 postal sacks-all registered and abroad.

She said it cost him over £2k to post  and she doesn't see a penny of it as she's on a wage...bless her!

Find a small local post office and build a relationship with the owners. They are paid on volume so love Ebay regulars. Prefer us to somebody that wants a single stamp.

I now drop my parcels off and pay for them later in the day.

Do you send your parcels recorded ?

If so obtain a roll of Signed for Labels and ask for a copy of the Bulk Posting Certificate ( subsection 5 of the Post Office Manual).

Then you label up all your parcels prior to taking them to the post office. You can also enter the tracking details onto Ebay at your conveniance.

The post office just enters the post code and scans them. Speeds up the process a lot.

I think it will always be a bugbear of us ebayers, yet we're the ones that are are mainly keeping the post office staff in jobs. Without us (oh, and those that withdraw "all of it, please" - what's that all about???) they wouldn't be in jobs, as not many folk send letters these days with the advent of email, etc.

In my local, local post office, its a little man & wife team (not that I know they are man & wife, but that's the story I have created in my head); he doesn't like me and whenever he sees me come in, he will either take ages with the person before me, so I have no option but to go to his wife, or he goes off to the back of the counter and starts pretending he has more important things to do! Drives me mad, and yet I probably give them more revenue than they can shake a stick at.

You must live in a posh area, all I overhear from them in the PO is "olluvit" - no please or thanks!! As if receiving benefits is a right, not a privilege!

And I agree, it's the people who put money into the Post Office, ebayers, getting car tax, stamps etc, that keeps them open for Joe Doley to "collect his pay".

I had this problem too, my listings usually end on a sunday evening so I'd be getting glares from the dole queue on a monday morning, mystified as to what exactly was in my big bag.

Started using the online postage payment - SOOOO MUCH EASIER. All you need is a printer and kitchen scales and then you can just throw them off.

Remember that those of you who drop your parcels off and then go back to pay for them - the post office staff still need to process those parcels, and keep a track of how much you owe - whilst trying to serve other customers!

My mum works in a small post office, and lots of her customers moan and groan about having to wait (not sure why, at least it's warm in there!!) and then they hold up the queue by not being ready to be served, or wanting to have a chat when they get to the front of the queue...!!

Don't worry about the people tutting behind you - like others have said, you have as much right to use the post office as anyone else, and if they didn't have something to moan about, then they would probably moan about that!!!
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

Completely not helped by the dropping off.

His massive workload still had to be processed whilst serving a never decreasing queue.

Had he stood there and waited whilst it had all been done, she would have actually had time to do it whilst the queue built up behind him.

Like someone coming and dumping something on you in your workday, when it's already full, and telling you they were back at 1pm to get the completed job.

    for goodness sake!

When Royal Mail decide to go on strike, they don't care about the inconvenience imposed on us. So don't feel guilty if you inconvenience them when you post your packets.
If you get any remarks from any cashier, remind them that without people like you they would be out of a job.
As for the people behind you moaning, ignore them, that moaning might be the highlight of their day, they'll go home and tell everyone in the neighbourhood, it gives them something to say.
I usually go to the post office around 10 in the morning, usually I don't have to queue. There might be only a couple of people already being served by 4 cashiers.
If I go one hour later, there is a queue reaching the pavement and the people is served by 2 cashiers.
