Mot

  • Before you take it for an MOT just give the car a quick check over, check your tyre depth, enough coolant, oil, brake fluid and water for washers

check lights, number plate and number plate lights

check for CV boots, track rod ends, drop links, engine mounts and lower ball joints for any play (these are what normally fails)

if all of the above is in good condition and you car is rust free then ideally your car should pass unless the garage want to flog off an exhaust or something

What does this mean? Where would I check these? Thanks!!

To be brutally honest of you don't know then don't ask, all under the car grimey stuff. It's actually easier to let it pass or fail and then :T or fix it;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

i had my car serviced and had a mot check done on it and then took it to one of those chains and they were very very funny.

The guy done like 45 mins of checking and they were under the car for a bit, then they came told my my cv ball joint is really bad and needs replacing and if i dont the car will die on me, very soon. They quoted me like £170 for this job and told me the parts alone would cost 75 quid. They also asked me for an extra 25 quid and told me it was for adjusting my headlight, so i told the guy ''who asked you to fix this? and agreed to pay that amount of money''. He just said ok and went took the screw driver and readjusted both of them. So that there looking too high. Which really really angered me because how could he know he has adjusted them to where they originally were?

So anyway i took the car to my garage who changed it for like 65 quid alltogether and could not believe why it was failed and they told me the CV boot has a tiny tiny tiny hole in it just enough for a little bit of oil to come out. They had to squeeze it for some grease to come out. I took it to a local and paid 50 quid and the guy passed it with no problems, and adjusted the headlights for free. I asked him about the cv ball joint and was told it should only be a recommendation and not a failure.

This was nationwide auto centres, at one of there half price mot offers. A total waste of money and it just ended up costing me a lot more. I now go to a local pay 50 quid all the car and i have never had any problems.
  • phone them and ask.

I did, I just got a recorded menu telling me to press 1 to book a mini bus or 2 to speak to admin. Or something along those lines.
