What Is The Best Way To Cancel AOL?

My contract ends in December and we are hoping to move to a house where AOL isn't supported by LLU.
please see my other thread:

It's too expensive anyway !
I gather AOL make it difficult to cancel. What is the best way to do this?
Is there a phone number I can ring where I get to speak to someone in the UK?
Do I need a MAC code If I move?
And how do I keep my email addresses? This is important as I don't have time to change them all over.
Cheers

To cancel you just call AOL and give the required notice.
A MAC code is not required if you are moving to another address, it is only used for migrating on the same number to another ISP.
To avoid losing your email address you should open a Googlemail account, which is ISP-independent.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Sorry for being thick, I have been with AOL for years.
Can my aol emails be forwarded to a google mail account?0 -
Not if your AOL addy has been closed. I believe it can be retained but you would have to pay a fee for this.
You can set up Googlemail to download your emails into most email programs, such as Outlook Express, Windows Mail , and Thunderbird.
It takes maybe 30 mins max to open a G-Mail account and notify your contacts by group email. No free lunch, and no free laptop

AOL mail is free, anyone can have an AOL email account
http://info.aol.co.uk/mail/
You will also find, if you ask them, that you are able to retain you're current AOL email address, and login details, even after you've left, no charge.
I was with AOL prior to joining O2, 18 months ago, and I can still access my old email account

Thanks Del, I hope I can keep them for free too
I know it's easy to notify my personal contacts and friends but it isn't so quick to go through all my websites that I use my email addy to logon with0 -
Hi
As someone who is considering AOLs unlimited package (as with 6 in the house it gets a lot of use) why do you consider AOL to be difficult to leave (or should I say any more difficult than the rest), Do they try and withhold the MAC code or do they pester you during the last month ? Or something else ?
Thanks0 -
I have read that you send them an automated email and it just gets ignored. I can imagine they will try and retain me with tempting offers but as I will only be able to get less than 1mg speed its a no brainer for me as I have 4 computers all connected wirelessly in my house. I must say even though it is expensive I do like AOL.0

I reckon a good way to cancel would be with a recorded song sent to the MD.0

Yeah,
that song would be good !0 -
Just make sure when you cancel they give you a cancelation code0
