I have been looking at the old style board thingy. It is like a religious order over there, complete with miracles (most seem to involve turnip).

Sisters, I have seen light. Praise the Lord and pass me the slow cooker. I am going to attempt to make brisket edible:cool:

Honestly, I feel like St Peter on my very own road to Damascus.

Some of their recipes seem to rely a bit heavily on carbs though. And aren't cheaper cuts of meat fattier? I will need ask my mother.

They're wonderful over there. When I started on mse, that was my spiritual home, and to borrow your metaphor, wageslave, my salvation. I'd just had no 3, and was struggling massively with time management and practical issues - they were great for reducing things to manageable chunks, and giving me loads of practical skills, like batch cooking tips, 'stretching' food, loads of recipes, cleaning tips, time management tips, just everything really. There's none of the aggro you get on this board - really lovely, helpful board guides too.

    I recommend it.

Or we could try my idea of merging the two, by subtly inserted recipes, on topic preferably.

I also found discussing sausage recipes, say, was a great way to bore some of the ruder posters on here into submission, and return the converation to topic, by roundabout means. :)

A great turnip anything surely deserves a medal.

Can we have the recipe, LIR?

This made me laugh out loud.

    Loved the turnip reference.

I was brought up "poor". Poor but we got through. We ate a lot of carbs, but even having rice was "posh" back then and we didn't know they were carbs - it was hot food.

I now rarely eat meat. As a child we had very nasty gristley meat. Nasty gristley grey mince and horrible gristley sausages that would make me choke. Awful it was. And that's why now I don't mind not eating meat... I always figured at least I won't find a hard lump of gristle in it.

These days though, meat isn't so nasty and gristley.

No, some cheaper cuts of meat are very lean or are cooked for long enough so the fat can be easily removed. You need some fat in your diet anyways.

Cheaper cuts include offal (liver, kidney and heart) all low fat and healthy, lamb neck fillet (lean), pork ribs and trotters are low fat, belly pork needs long slow cooking. Skirt is a cheaper cut than most of the better known steak.

If you're brave enough, chicken feet is very tasty and low in fat too.

Even if you buy a whole chicken and joint it, that will be cheaper and you can really make it stretch. I can make a medium chicken feed 2 a week of dinners and some lunches

I am in the process of emptying out my freezer. Begone Ben and Jerrys, I am going to batch cook.

EDIT Chicken feet, nah honestly. I like liver. My Nan used to make a wonderful liver casserole with lemon and grated potato in it. No- one seems to have the recipe :(
