Yeah, agreed. Many disabled people have conditions that would probably require extra heating. They are just as vulnerable and often poor as well!
Quite agree , my husband had a stroke at 49 yrs old 15 months ago, and he his wheelchair bound with very little movement. I have to have my heating on 14 hrs a day too for him, I cant see why the disabled cant receive this cold weather payments , I dont think all old age pensioners have to sit all day like a lot of disabled do. Alot of pensioners still dont put the heating on even if they get financial help, the disabled dont have a choice they have to have heating on, then you get the minority of pensioners that go to live in spain for the winter !! and THEY still get their winter payment.!! work that one out. !!

Do you mean the Cold Weather payment rather than the Winter Fuel payment?

If so, she may be. I'm sure there are some posters here who know which benefits will trigger the payments.

I'm sure someone will be along soon with the info. Fingers crossed for you!
  • Winter fuel payments are for the over 60`s whilst cold weather payments are made to those on qualifying benefits when the temp.in there area is at zero or below for 7 consecutive nights.

I don't even know how they pay the WFPayment is it by name, NI number or random!?

it is paid by qualifying benefit and then nino if split

Last week Pension Credit made their payments, this weekend see the start of State Pension 0-50 (last two digits of nino) next week sees the remainder issued, all payments should be recevied by Christmas

It's very cold at night in Spain in the winter - often much colder than in the UK.

We've lived full-time in Spain until recently and I can assure you I'd never used an electric blanket until I moved to Spain!

Also, just to clarify, British pensioners who are full-time residents in Spain don't get the winter fuel allowance unless they qualified for it in the UK before they went to Spain. In other words, you can't go to live permanently in Spain in your 50s and then qualify for the payment when you are 60.

I agree my daughter has CMT and she suffers from acute cold even in Summer she is cold. She has to wear two thick dressing gowns on when she gets home, and two pairs of thick socks thats even when central heating is on @ 21c
My mum hasn't received her payment yet. I wish that disabled people were entitled to it, as my son needs the heating on during the night as well as during the day. My heating bills are so expensive throughout winter that a payment towards them would be vey useful indeed.
