You were involved in a collision a took down the number of the other car. The number you took is down to a woman who has insurance.
Is it the same vehicle you took the number down for? ie make and model
Has this been verified and if so how?
You next step is to prove her car was involved.
Was there much damage to her vehicle?
Would it have required an insurance claim to repair?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

It was definitely the right colour car and I remember the police telling me the make and model (this was immediately afterwards when I was on the phone to my local station and they looked up the registration) and thinking it sounded about right, but unfortunately because of the angle she hit me, it crushed my driver's side door shut, so I couldn't physically get out and take a good look at her car. I know that she smashed her light, but other than that it didn't seem too bad for her, so she could have easily got it fixed without claiming.0 -

My DH had a similar thing to you, hit & run by a (middle-aged) woman driver, but she tried to run him over in order to escape without stopping, she did hit him a few times with her (VW) van as a warning/threat.
He's made his statement, his witness (a passer by) has made his & the police confirmed its the same, but we are still waiting for the police to pick her up as she's not responded to requests to come to the station (she is "known" to them).
If she pleads guilty to hitting & running and attempting to (& hitting) run my DH over - she will possibly be asked to pay compensation to him & write a letter of apology:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Is it any wonder there is so much crime:rolleyes:0 -
I have 100% no sympathy with hit n run drivers I hope they are banned forever
Having had two hit n runs on my last 2 cars on each occasion they hit a stationary car, I have had to suffer financially because of this let alone the stress and anxiety it causes.
Hope OP gets this resolved a.s.a.p0 -
Oh well, looks like I've hit a brick wall with this. I contacted my old insurers, they have changed the company who deal with their claims, so they contacted the old company 'The Claims Service' while I was on the line, and they are now denying that they ever dealt with me because I was third party. I definitely submitted a claim, I even have my claims reference no. but, they are saying that they wouldn't have dealt with it. I've tried looking up a number for The Claims Service to speak with them myself, but can't find a number. All I want is to find out this woman's insurance details, which apparently should have been given to me 6 months ago when someone from The Claims Service told me that she had insurance. Apparently I could have pursued her insurers by myself, but wasn't told this at the time, so never did. Now the MIB are saying that because she was insured, they probably wont be able to help me and I should claim through her insurance - but no one will give me her insurance details!0

Can you raise this with the Insurance Ombudsman Service? :

Possibly, but only after going through an official complaints procedure with my old insurers. I've thought about it, and the amount of effort it will take to do all this really is too much for me right now. I may still fill out an MIB claim just in case they can help, but otherwise I think I just have to be happy with the fact that she may be given points and a fine.0 -

So he has three years?
NO! If he waits three years he will not recover the property only element. Claiming from the MIB is different to ordinary civil claims and tight rules apply. The claim must be made urgently.0 -
OP just get yourself a solicitor, they will get paid to make all the enquiries and will have access to certain additional information. Do it soon before you loose the protection of the MIB as a last resort.
For a good firm try one on this link:

Having said that if the vehicle has insurance, even if the driver of the vehicle isn't a named driver that insurance company should deal with the claim and recover the money from the driver/owner.
This is a complex area though so get proper advice. Don't delay phone and speak to someone now!0 -
Thanks Kat, I'm honestly trying not to delay! My sister is a solicitor (and weirdly, has worked for one of the firms listed there), I've spoken with her and she says she'll help me with an MIB claim but I'm not sure she understands the complexities of my case so I'll have to explain it to her over the weekend! Will update this thread if anything else comes of all this!0
