Surprisingly, there are cheap distressed sales going on at the moment, or at least cheaper than they were.
A couple of days ago I got a call from a company who had given me a quote some months ago (£9.9k for a 2.3kw system), telling me they had overstocked, were taking on loads more fitters because they were snowed under, would guarantee fitting and me getting the current fit rate, with a £500 discount from my previous quote, so £8.4k. (That's what he said, when I pointed out that was a £1.5k discount, he simply said 'so it is').
I quite like the fact that we can now save the planet and get a discount for doing so.0 -

Currently seems to be a 'take it or leave it' position being upheld by some/most installers around here. I know someone who had already received quotes and was in the process of 'tweaking' the requirements and negotiating on price when the announcement was made .... the willingness to negotiate was immediately revoked by both installers on his shortlist, quick decision made & a weekend install is planned ..... supply & demand comes to mind ....
Are you going to take them up on the offer ?

Would you trust him to get it fitted in time? Don't think I would.

What part of the country?
We're in sunny Surrey.
I'm not taking up the offer, and couldn't even if I wanted, since I have 3 women at my neck saying it would spoil the look of the house. We also haven't had any sun on the roof for a month or so due to tall trees at the front. There's also a big chimney stack which inconveniently would shade part of the roof in summer from sunrise at one edge, and sweeps across to the other edge about midday. (The salesman didn't think this would be a problem!, and knocked of 10% for the tree shading). (btw, it was pretty clear that I knew more than he did about solar panels, and he didn't even know the correct rate for the 50% grid export tariff. Really pleasant person though, with no hard sell).0 -
Just had an update from the nice people at Eon.
After some strange schenanigans about completing the lease, they have actually got the lawyers to pull their fingers out and that has now completed. The provisional install date of next Tuesday has had to be abandoned, but now that the legals are all in place they can put a confirmed date in which will meet the 8th December cut off, so looks like its full steam (well, steam powered by an imersion heater powered by the energy of the sun) ahead.
The call centre lady that I've dealt with is a credit to Eon, very helpful, and she also said that dealing with my case makes a change from most of the other calls which she is making which are effectively "sorry, we've missed the boat, no solar for you" conversations. Happy to be making her day!!

I wouldn't count on building up much of a head of steam at the moment .... heating a standard (115litre ?) of hot water to 60C just once would would have taken all of our generation for the past 5 days, but at 60C the tank heatloss over the 5 days would be more than the energy input, even without drawing any hot water from it ...

Having completed the lease etc for my free solar, I seemed to be stuck in limbo for a few days trying to find out whether I would make it up the list of installations scheduled to be completed.
Eventually got through to the right people today, and had Saturday 3rd December confirmed as the install date. Fingers crossed!
(Current weather doesn't appear to be helping - I wouldn't like to be up on a roof with the gale that is currently blowing past my door!)

My boys arrived home from school today - "Daddy, who put that climbing frame up around our house?!"
So that'll be the scaffolding here then!
