PC Freezes when trying to watch a dvd.

Thought I would bump this to update in case it helps anyone else.
After formatting and reinstalling, the problem was still there and I've just been using the pc for basic stuff and avoiding any video things.
After weeks of messing about on and off with the pc between work shifts, I've now found out that it seems it is the hard drive that is the problem. The drive is failing (confirmed by the manufacturer's diagnosis program) and although running basic stuff is fine, it can't cope with the demands put on it when running video which is why the pc freezes.
This wouldn't have been in my 'things it could be' list so you learn something new every day.
PC manufacturer is going to rplace hard drive under warranty.0
