I have tried the Windows Media player to watch a dvd and it tells me it doesn't have the correct files to view the dvd.
I then installed PowerDVD which froze as soon as it opened. I uninstalled it and then tried WinDVD which also froze. Obviously a problem with my pc rather than the programs.
Can anyone help please?

Just tried 2 other DVD's and same thing happened. (Normal shop bought DVD's).
Also seem to have a problem with Internet Explorer shutting down and/or freezing. Might all this be connected to an upgrade to Flash 8 I did a week or so ago?
Uninstalling Flash has had no effect though.0 -

Swings between 0% - 7% for cpu usage, but sits mostly around 0%. 361MB PF usage (no idea if that's relevant).
Spyware/virus scans show up nothing.0 -

like you say sounds like some sort of corruption, can you go to a Restore point before the Flash 8 Update ??Ex forum ambassador

What happens if you right click the drive and then click properties is the drive being seen as the correct sort of drive i.e DVD, CD, CDRW?
And have you tried any hardware software updates, what about any other burning software as Nero has some issues, I take it you have all updates aswell.0
