The my computer window shows the drive as a DVD-RW drive but right clicking>properties show it listed as a CD drive.
It is a combi drive though so is that not ok?
All hardware/software is up to date. Mmmm, not sure why burning software like Nero has anything to do with it? Do you mean it might conflict in some way? I can burn cd's and dvd's ok.....I just can't seem to watch any dvd.0 -

Roxio does have a few conflicts have a look here This in all probability not relevant its just to show you an example of a conflict.
This may however be relevant but im not 100% sure Link
Now if none of this works try downloading K-Lite 7th down the list.
Edit: I meant Roxio sorry

No Roxio on pc.
Tried K-Lite but same problem, pc just froze again.
Also tried system restore to pre Flash 8 but it couldn't be restored to then which might suggest/give more weight to the corruption theory?
Got most stuff backed up on an external hard drive so it's not too much hassle to format.
Thanks again.0 -

To get shot of flash just try this.
Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs ( tick show updates ) and see if its there if so uninstall Flash.
If doing a restore are you 100% comfortable

Already downloaded and used Flash uninstaller so it's gone. Still the same problem though.
Done many reformats, no worries. Just a pain.

Maybe too late now...
I've seen some similar problems with DVD's. The software would crash after pressing play though, not just opening the program.
ASPI problem?

Or maybe a IDE driver problem?0 -
