Can I join Sky as a new customer?

Options
At the moment Sky are doing free Sky Plus for new customers through this website with a £50 voucher and only £30 install, so £20 in your pocket. This is on Sky Tv offers . net

My question is this - We currently have Sky in my wife's name, if I were to cancel this package could I re-apply in my name as a new customer?

I have been told I can, but spoke to somebody at Sky who was adamant that the customer is linked to the address and that this would not qualify as a new customer under my name.

Surely I am a new customer if i am not the current customer, despite living at the same address? Or does it really go on the house AND the person?

thanks

The T&C's say it is the 'household' i.e. the subscriber and any family at that address.

Tough one that - I would say 2 cancel it over the phone but then apply online in your name only and this should get around being linked then

To sign up as a new customer and get a free box you must enter into an Interactive Discount Contract.

Box in that contract is defined as "an authorised digital satellite decoder" which I take to include a Sky+ box.

    2(g) of that contract says

"You are only entitled to one Interactive Discount per household. "

The contract does not define Household so it will take its natural meaning which I take to be family members living together.

    Thanks for that.

I tried the old 'ring them and pretend to cancel' technique and failed miserably just now!

Me "I'm thinking about cancelling and getting a DTR, but i noticed that at the moment Sky+ is free with £30 istallation and a £50 gift voucher to new customers, wondered if you would be prepared to give me this deal"

Sky "the best i can do is £59 fully installed, you'll need to re-sign for twelve months"

ME "I only really wanted to pay the £30 to be honest"

Sky "Ok I'll put the cancellation through for the 11th of December then, thanks"

haha, it was as quick as that, they hardly fight to keep you do they!? I had to back track quickly and tell them I wanted to think it through and not to cancel. The bloke on the other end was polite but was probably chuckling his backside off on the other end of the phone, having clearly totally called my bluff!

He also said we would need to be away from Sky for a full twelve months for anyone in my house to qualify as a new customer!

When you sign up,Chordiant,Sky's SMS will bring up a list of subscribers at the address you give,be them active or inactive.
from that list they can see who & when the last person is that had Sky & when they cancelled although they cannot view account details of the persons listed.

Mum is on her basic sky box still and wants a sky+ box, if we cancel and wait a few weeks and then put it in my name is it likely to flag up anywhere?

Obviously you did not bother reading the reply #8 immediately above.

    I didn't really understand it.

It says it will show active/inactive people that have had sky at that address.

So if my name is not on the list I will be classed as a new customer?
