Suggestions for a new bagless vacuum cleaner, please?

Well if you've had 9 years out of your last Dyson I'd say that was a pretty good innings! The newer ones are more reliable than the old ones too. As for the HEPA filters, as you suggest, there's no point in having them unless you have an allergy sufferer in the house.
I'd check out the DC14. It's a good no-nonsense machine (no ball). We've had ours for about 3 years now and never had any problems with it. Also all Dysons come with a 5 year guarantee now.
If you need any more info try the Dyson forum https://www.dysonforum.com0 -
I bouht a Sebo Vulcano K3 on recommendation from many people for their five year parts and labour guarantee and great cleaning.
Well it packed up two days ago after not even two and a half years and they are charging me fifty quid to send it off to them to see IF it's fixable. If not I'll have spent the fifty quid and still have no vacuum.
That machine cost me over £200 and I think that's pretty crap service. I only bought it cos I wanted a vacuum that would last...
I would have recommended tham as it's been great at actually cleaning. But If you're told five years parts and labour you don't want to be paying out fifty quid to see if that promise actually holds.
I'm going to email them back saying I think that's a bit of a cheek, but I'm also eyeing up other, cheaper cleaners!0 -
My old trusty Dyson gave up the ghost a few weeks ago after 8 years, and I couldn't really afford to replace it with another at the time, so I chose a Samsung bagless one from Argos, which I used once and took back the next day because I found it really loud and cumbersome. I swapped it for a Morphy Richards bagless, which was OK for about two weeks and then lost its suction.
I really wish I'd spent a little bit more and got another Dyson now.
In short - avoid Samsung and Morphy Richards! I'm definately having another Dyson next time.Extra Payment Every Week Challenge:

Hi.
For those of you with dodgy Dysons....my Dad's acted up a few years back and he called them out to service it. For £50 (or was it £70 ?) they replaced all the worn parts, including the motor. It was a set price no matter how much needed changing.
Why not check if they still do this? Must be cheaper than buying a new one. Dad's had no problems with his since.
Just checked their website:
At Dyson we offer a routine service for £69.00 (inc VAT), fully inclusive of spare parts and labour (excluding accessories), €90 in Ireland, which includes an electrical safety check, filters (if required) and a 12 month guarantee on any work undertaken. On arrival our Dyson Service Engineer will assess your machine and advise you of the correct course of action before any work is completed.

i have recently bought my second dyson , my dc04 was starting to loose suction and the hose had split , bearing in mind it was over 8 years old , 2 kids dogs and me being a builder it had a hard life , i looked into other bagless hoovers and ended up buying the dyson ball dc25 , well i found the comet version (dyson /comet special) came with free extra tools for £190 and it works fantastic and after reading lots of reveiws saying its flimsey exetera ... its not and yes i do ram it about
and it has a 5 year warrenty free with it so no extra insurance costs which from my experiance are not worth it , so for £190 your guaranteed a hoover for 5 years .
the only real draw back with it is that the cylinder is a bit smaller so requires emptying more often .... which is perhaps a good thing really , who wants 2/3 week old muck stored in their hoover0 -
Sorry, another vote for miele cat and dog with bags!
I've used bagless cleaners before. I've owned them and I've used other peoples and my miele is far, far better IMO at picking up than any of the Dyson's etc.
I order the bags online very cheaply. Despite having 2 cats and 2 dogs, I don't get that horrible smell that I used to get from my old bagless vaccuums.
The carpenter that fitted all my internal doors rang me a couple of days after he'd finished to ask me what make my vaccuum was, as he was so impressed with it, he wanted to buy one himself.0 -

Gosh, I didn't know that! I've still got the old one in the garage, as we still use it for cleaning out the cars as the tools work but the beater bar doesn't. Will get an engineer out! Sounds like I could get my old trusty dyson working again, many thanks! :TExtra Payment Every Week Challenge:

Hi, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought it would be nice to give an update on this.
Finally lost my temper with the rubbish Morphy Richards vac that I'd bought to replace my clapped-out Dyson yesterday, so I phoned the Dyson customer services yesterday afternoon. The CS lady was very polite and helpful and said they could send somebody round in the morning, between 8:00 and 1:00. I said "not between 8:30 and 9:15 as I have to take kids to school", so she said no problem, she would book it for 9:15.
The Dyson engineer has been around this morning, at bang on 9:15, and replaced the clutch, brush bar, cable, button switch and will be sending me a new hose out in the post because he didn't have one in his van. All done in about 20 minutes, the engineer was very polite and professional, and to top it all...
My old Dyson is working perfectly again!!! :T
I have to say, Dyson's customer services team are by far the best I have ever dealt with, and it is not often I have said this, but I would highly recommend them!

I can also recommend the Bissell I got the pets one last year and it is excellent especially for getting the hair up. It is a bit heavy and quite noisy but the results it give makes it worth it.
I got it on special offer just after Xmas last year, I think it was about 49.000
