I get these sorts of calls every so often, it seems to pass some of them by when I tell them my box cost £20 off Ebay...0

I had a call this morning.
Someone rang and asked to speak to the bill payer. He then went on to ask about my Sky TV, was it OK, etc. etc. how about the Broadband.
Then went on to tell me about an insurance I could take out to cover damage to the box etc etc.
I said I was interested and then he asked me to confirm the first line of my address which I did. Then he mentioned my name - and it was incorrect, the name of a previous occupant. I was then suspicious and when he asked for my bank code and account number I told him no way was I going to give that and put the phone down.
Its is so easy to get sucked into something like this. The phone number did, however, appear on the display and it was 08001218143.
I had a look on the Sky Users Forum and evidently you have to opt out of them passing your information on to other companies - even though you are ex directory!!! I logged in and have done this on My Sky.0 -
You have to be very careful with this on sign up. If you have to sign a bit of paper, there's usually tiny print saying they'll pass on your details to the world and his mother unless you tick a little box. Some forms are sneaky and assume you will tick the box which - depending on the wording - will actually give them permission.worriedinspain wrote: »I had a look on the Sky Users Forum and evidently you have to opt out of them passing your information on to other companies - even though you are ex directory!!!
On the phone, they reel back the terms and conditions at you really quickly and much too fast to understand, then they slip in something like "we'll keep you informed of special offers, is that ok?" Saying yes will authorise them to pass on your entire life history to Indian call centres, Nigerian scammers and probably al-Qaeda. Beware.0
