I don't see where anyone is encouraging the breeding of Shar Pei  - merely commenting on Hintza's previous post.

Anyway, I thought the OP was considering an adult rescue (?) so no puppies or further breeding involved .

ty errata - will watch that with interest!
as for the suggestion of a Shar Pei - my son had one - but - he was a destructive little beggar good with the kids but aggressive to visitors. he couldnt be left alone and reluctantly my son handed him over to more suitable owners for him.
I cant in all honesty recommend springers as they do need a LOT of exercise - and my springer disliked german shepherds for some reason. and would go for them! also she was hard work as a puppy - which lasted until she was about 4!!! very destructive and i couldnt leave her in garden either as she was determined to dig her self a bunker! cant call it a hole - only left her an hour and it was six feet across and a couple of feet deep!
oh - just thought - had a friend with a great dane - wonderful dog - both the owners worked full time! dog was so laid back he was almost horizontal!

Great danes - aren't they one of the slobbery breeds? I find that a bit off-putting even if the dog's lovely in every other way.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thankk you for your input - just to update I am holding off right now as my other half has just been put into consultation for redundancy :(

It's not been our year - I was under consultation in December and reprieved at the last minute, 2 days before I was due to go.

So sorry to hear that. My OH has just been made redundant for the 2nd time this year - it's a real worry :(.

At least you'll have plenty of time to do your research on what type of dog to get eventually - without the temptation to get one straight away (just trying to think of "silver linings", etc). Do let us know when that day finally arrives, won't you :D.

I put your info into PetPlanet and they suggest the Standard Schnauzer which might be worth looking into. In second place came a Shar Pei! And in third was the Papillon.

I used the KC breed selector for a dog for myself and despite putting in that I want a large breed it suggested a Miniature Pinscher for me!!! :rotfl:

What's rather strange though is that it was the only breed suggested!!!
