Advice Needed - Traffic Warden Gave Me A Ticket - Digit Wrong On Reg Number

Such a database search would not work, I'm afraid. You could wildcard match part of the string, but not "things that are like it". You could match ABC% to get a list of all beginning with ABC, but you can't get ones that are like ABC123. We don't even know what number is out. Instead of GN51 (for example) it could be HN51 or GM51 or GN52 etc etc so you couldn't wildcard match on that either. FYI I'm a database developer who works on databases of vehicle names a lot...
You'd be able to get lists of vehicles that are blue fiestas sure, but also remember that dealers will end up with similar plates for similar cars. I.e. I once had a Freelander that was GU02 reg. Pretty much all the vehicles from this dealer were GUxx. I even saw a car driving around (and still sometimes see) that was one letter out (on the last three letters) from mine, and it was the same colour as mine as well, and obviously the guy lives in a fairly close geographical area to me.
Ignore the ticket. They won't find you, and even if they do, the ticket is incorrectly issued and not enforcable.0 -
After a bit of thought, you probably could search by wildcarding each letter in turn in seperate queries, i.e. %N51, G%51, GN%1 etc to get a list of results.
My other (and everyone elses) points still stand, however and the ticket is not valid.0 -
If you are in a decriminalised parking zone, the law is that the attendant must
either hand you the ticket or fix it to the windscreen, for it to be legal.
http://www.parkingticket.co.uk/em.html
But if it's a policeman he doesn't have to have finished writing it for it still to
be enforceable.
Single yellow lines can have all sorts of different restrictions-anywhere from 1
hour to 23 hours in a day, including after 6.30 pm on a Sunday-so you must
follow the instructions on the sign. So you ARE allowed to park on single
yellows at all times outside the stipulations on the sign.
A single blip on the pavement means you only cannot park or unload during
the times on the sign when parking is not allowed.
There are dispensations also-like your car is broken down or you have an emergency etc etc.
At the bottom of the website it says [PAS = Parking Attendants]
PAs are required to make a note of a number of things, including the colour of the vehicle, all of which must be correctly recorded for the ticket to be valid. If the PA recorded that the vehicle as being white when, in fact, it was black there could be little argument that the information was incorrect and the ticket, therefore invalid.
So if the registration number is incorrectly recorded, the ticket is invalid.
Note to Bobtoo-is it really necessary to refer to people as idiots when their
point of view differs from yours-especially as the law appears not to confirm
your view in this instance.0 -
hi it is a legal document it has to be correct not near. they can not reissue a ticket. your lucky this time you found a rude normal but thick wardenBefore you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0
-
i once heard that if the warden doesnt know what kind of car it is(make or model) they cant issue a ticket as the ticket they fill in will be incomplete without this information and therfore invalid.0

I used to deal with PCNs in a local council and we were told that any errors on the ticket, car make, reg, street, etc renders the ticket invalid and we should write off the ticket if it's contested.
However, if the driver pays up without comment we should take their money -as they were committing an offence.
Of course this may not be the case in every borough, but it's worth bearing in mind if you get an incorrect ticket.0 -
My mum got a refund after paying a fine because her Reg No was a digit wrong. So there's plenty of hope if you haven't paid yours!0

If the number is wrong, the document is invalid.
It doesn't happen often because the issuing warden gets fined for an invalid ticket.0 -

Since when !!!!!!!! or is this like they get a bonus for how many tickets are issued.0 -
I used to be a traffic warden and in our Dept anyone issuing an incorrect ticket would get fined. I left 3 years ago, things may have changed. We didn't get bonus for tickets issued. Just got moaned at if we needed a new ticket book when they were short staffed.0
