Advice Needed - Traffic Warden Gave Me A Ticket - Digit Wrong On Reg Number
I would like some advice please:-
Just taken my car into town to draw some money out. Literally got out of car and along came a traffic warden. I hadn't even taken the 10 steps to the cashpoint.
So, it was yellow lines and I know i wasnt suppose to park there, but it was more of a one min stop and wife was sat in the car.
What struck me was the warden was so damn rude, which in turn made me angry. Anyway, I am going to dispute the ticket, as the engine was still running, and although the car was stopped it wasn't "parked".
However on coming home, Looked at the penalty notice and have seen that although the make and colour of car is correct, the last digit of the reg number is wrong.
Should I go ahead and appeal, or should I pay (dont want to though), or should I simply ignore as the reg number wont come up on their computer. Just to clarify, to pay within 14 days is £30, and £60 if its within 28 days. Any advice would be useful, as this is a money saving website, and I want to save money. Thanks in advance.

You could always try https://www.pepipoo.co.uk though I think that its more for speeding offences. You may be able to get off on a technicality.
What sort of lines were there on the road where you stopped? Are you admitting you shouldnt have stopped the car where you did? If so I would pay up as you were at fault.Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
So if the registration number is wrong, how can they find you to chase up the fine?
Problem solved.
I must say though that if I had been an on duty policeman I'd have nicked you for leaving a car unattended with the engine running.

Personally I'd force this into court and then request evidence on the day, and with a flourish produce the documents for your car and ask them to explain the discrepancy..but only in light of the t/w's attitude...0

i'd bin it seeing as it's not your car they've issued a ticket to. Why risk them apolgising for their error and giving you another ticket.0

If it gets to court you will lose. The warden will be able to identify you as the driver and the incorrect number won't count because it will either not exist or be for the wrong kind of car. If they want to find you they will but they will probably not go to all that trouble for a parking ticket.
I don't have a problem with traffic wardens being rude, I think misplaced and/or insincere politeness is a blight on our society.0 -

Totally wrong. It will never get to Court as the ticket was wrongly issued.
The car with that registration number [if it exists]was not parked there at
that time-end of case.
Scheming Gypsys' advice was correct.
Though next time, if you see a warden, don't argue-move the car before he
begins to issue the ticket. Or if he has started, drive away before he completes it.
Oh and before all you holier than thou's jump in, why is it ok for the council
to deliberately cut down the number of allocated parking places-read this qUote
from a government consultant on https://www.abd.org.uk
"You sell the scheme to the public as a way of clamping down on dangerous and obstructive parking, but you will never make it pay like that. Its all about bringing in new yellow lines to force people to use the car parks, new on street parking charges and new residents zones."0 -
I agree that they (the ticketing office) would find it difficult to track you down as the warden has written down the incorrect digit, so the ticket for your "offence" would be sent to the person's reg number address that is written down.Though next time, if you see a warden, don't argue-move the car before he begins to issue the ticket. haa haa haa....this happened to me..i was parked outside a major store in a pedestrianised area for almost an hour!!!!! white van woman is my excuse!!!
and errrm, if that isnt a good enough excuse.. my mate was choosing a wedding dress an wanted my help and as i was sort of working at the time and the nearest carpark was ten mins awy, i took a chance, and left the hazard lights on.
anyway, im rambling. got slammed with a ticket for 60 which they kindly offered me a 50% discount on.
i drove off fuming till i looked closer and saw the same mistake.
so i binned it. if its not correctly filled in it aint a legal document.
the dramas of bein a white van woman!!!!!0 -
ps.. the likelyhood of a vehicle reg being one digit different from yours and the same colour and the same model are slim to say the least so i very much doubt that the bailiffs will be knocking anyone elses door.0
