[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif What's this about?[/title]
This week we're updating the look and style of the weekly MoneySaving tip and we'd love your feedback on the changes.

Please note this is specifically for changes to the email not the onsite version - while that's similar we're still working on making that look better.

[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif What's changed?[/title]
Here's a quick run down of the basics of what we've done. We're aiming at small improvements not a wholesale redesign. The tip works incredibly well as it is - even with its current clunky style, so this is just an iterative rather than revolutionary change.
  • The email is now fixed width rather than stretchy, which should fit well in your e-mail client and also helps us lay it out in a way we know will make sense.
  • The headlines at the top are now bigger, better spaced and are anchor links (in email clients that allow them) so when you click them it will take you to the relevant space.
  • The headlines for each note in the main body are now a bigger font but shorter with a black sub headline underneath.
  • All the main text now has 1.5 line spacing on it to make it easier to read (we tried having para separators too but it made everything too long).
  • Some of the content has been moved to the right hand side to make it more efficient.
  • We've changed the headline font to make it easier to read.
  • There are a few small new images in there. Though there aren't too many as I'm not a big fan of images in emails as many people don't click to upload them and it looks hideous when you don't. So we've tried to design it as much as possible that even if you don't upload the images everything's still readable and looks ok.
[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif What feedback would help?[/title]
Well of course once you get the email we'd love to know what you think's good or bad (though be gentle, the team and I (esp MSE Lawrence & MSE James) have worked long and hard on balance between keeping the feel of the current email but making it smoother).

Yet while we've tested it on various different machines and email systems - making it compatible across all of them is difficult. So if there's a problem - it's not laid out properly or looks awful then please tell us what you're looking at it on (outlook, gmail etc) and what the problem is - so we can try and fix it for next week.

Thanks for all the feedback that I know will come.

Martin

    Like it :)

    Especially the boxes on the right with Martin's Appearances and Andrea's Freebies which for some reason I always missed.

    I didn't really mind missing Martin's Appearances (sorry Mr Martin Lewis Sir :o), it was Andrea's Freebies that too often escaped me (incidentally I also missed the free eye test from D&A which may have been useful) but anyway enough waffling, I think the new layout is great and a job well done. Pat on the back for MSE Lawrence and MSE James and a Kit-Kat too, assuming MSE Guy hasn't already finished them off :cool:

    Love the new look of the email. The change in font sizes and spacing makes it much clearer and easier to read.

    Work's perfectly fine in my (free!) AOL email :)

    EDIT: "Thanked" the above post because I had missed the KiKat incident and it made me smile. Such a nice thing to have in my head before going off to bed, so thank you! ;)
  • Loving the new look, thank you, so much easier. :j
  • Much calmer look to it. Not frenetic or crowded. Easy on the eye. Thanks.
  • Much easier to read, a big improvement, thank you
  • Was looking through my collection of historical tips from the last 4 or 5 years this morning, and can say that this is definitely the sexiest and easiest to read.

    Much improved...I kike it a lot. As others have commented, the new fonts and sizes are very good, making it much easier to read. Works well on my configuration of IE8 and Gmail.:j.
