Anyone can pick up a box of choccies or yet another pair of socks, yet with a little imagination it's possible to make/get your dad a more interesting present without it costing the earth.

Father's Day's coming up on June 18th so I want to create a database of the nicest, most thoughtful pressie ideas. And, Dads, why don’t you post below to let MoneySaving wives and kids know what you really want?

A good photo album from our childhood & his own would prove to be a great present followed by maybe a few glasses of liquid from the local publican.

Oxfam are doing a promo on father's day gifts you can donate there with the gift going to a worthy cause eg in Africa have a look at their site. My dad is a retired teacher I am donating a sum which will pay a teacher's salary for a month in Africa I know my dad will be chuffed with this.

This is a great website for that personal touch. Bought my BF a calendar for Christmas and everybody comments on it. They are doing special calendars for Father's Day that start in June.

    I've been Money Tipped!
It's not very MSE but I take my kids to the pottery painting place and we all decorate a mug or plate for the special person/day.

Usually costs about £22 for all 3 of us to do a little cup or coaster each, then we come back in a week and pick them up.

So much nicer to have something hand decorated by a grandchild - even if they didn't make the actual cup - lol.

My mum always uses Eldest's big coaster(8") as a potstand at the dinner table now and I always use my youngest's mug he made with little pink hearts all over. Thing's like this last forever(well until they get dropped-lol)

    Hello,

This is an excellent post. I am a Dad of 2, ages 7 and 4.

My mate Simon burns his Dad a CD of his favourite, or meaningful songs. I think that is an excellent idea - Quite cheap to do (he is a student, so not much money) and personal at the same time.

I usually receive things that I will use all the time, so they remind me of my children. Last year I received (at my choice) a sports bag, cos I really needed one. I use it twice a week, so it has become a really useful pressie (although possibly a bit like receiving socks I suppose). I am thinking of requesting a Tea Rooms walking book (bit like the Good Pub walk guides), cos then we can all have a nice family day out by using the book.

Youngest son makes a CD as a present. As a student he finds it a cheap but personal present that his Dad enjoys - besides getting him "up to date" as he calls it! Also as OH has birthday 10 days before Father's Day it is expensive to buy presents.
Presents from other sons usually consist of golf items for golf mad father:rolleyes: and a bottle of something . Golf balls are around £28+ so not a cheap present.

A couple of times Ive given my dad photos of the kids - I buy the really cheap clip frames and paint around the end with glass paints to personalise it.
