I dont think anyone can disagree with that

    For the record ~
I was brought up and watched things I really shouldnt have at a VERY early age

Whether this was right or wrong doesnt concern me as I grew up ok so far as im concerned

Would I let my 11 yr old sis play a game where shes guning down innocent unarmed people as they crawl across the floor in agony etc? beat up people with a baseball bat? Allow her to play games full of swearing etc?
No I sure as hell wouldnt. But clearly most parents DO as shes told me all about what her friends watch and do
Do i think it might affect her in some way if I did? Hell yes. She might not turn into a stone cold killer, but it WOULD have an effect on her life even if it was almost insignificant

I caught a part of a BBC2 program one time where they went to some ancient village that had these monks there. They prayed everyday and generally lived in harmony
They gave them western tv to watch for 6 months
Within that 6 months they had over 5 rapings! Thieving, fighting, you name it.
    The effect it had was.......horrifying.......

People can say all they like about what they think ~ that result speaks volumes about the effect tv has...........

link to the program or it didn't happen! LOL :p:D

    Changing the direction slightly...

I was going to buy this game and nearly did buy it in the supermarket. I checked out a few online retailers for prices and discovered hundreds of terrible reviews all complaining about the same thing: bad multiplayer in the PC game versions.

I only play games to play online, that's where the excitement is for me, playing against a real opponent. Is anyone going to change my mind or is it true, the multiplayer is really bad for the PC?

Ps. Last game I played was MOHAAS! I'm years behind the times, but I got a new computer recently that can handle newer games, I've been playing Crysis and looking to buy some others. I thought this game was going to be great until I read the bad reviews (e.g. the hundreds of bad reviews on Amazon).

I do remember being taught a study similar to the one he mentions during A-Level psychology so I know similar experiments have been done. I'll be damned if I remember any of the details now though, and a google search hasn't brought anything up.

The PC boycott is basically because Activision won't be allowing dedicated servers for MW 2. Whether this is an issue for you or not is up to yourself.
  • I'm on the PC version and couldn't get the Multiplayer to work til last night... Spent about 3 hours on it - I didn't find any problems with it at all. I like how random it is, meaning you don't get all the "better" players going to 1 team just to win it. Even people switching sides half way through so they can be on the winning side.

Played a good few maps last night and with the exception of some being slightly larger maps and not suitable for a 6v6 they were enjoyable! I loved the previous CoD's where you could have up to 64 players running about but on some maps you would spawn die spawn die. At least here you have a fighting chance.

I would recommend the PC version and not let other reviews put you off - you may even find a lot of the reviews aren't from people who would "buy" the game but would prefer to get an illegitimate copy of the game.

Besides, I reckon in the not-too-distant future they will relax the rules and open it up. In the meantime, there's no problems I can see with the MP for PC version.

    Happy gaming!

thats why games have age ratings as theres some kids who do immitate actions from a game,

yes but like i have already asked were are kiddies going to get an ak-47 from? how is any person going to get hold of any of the kind of weapon featured in the game. so it will be pretty hard to actually immitate it except in a comparable way that kids have immitated cowboys and indians for decades.

i've just bought this game, not even played it and i'm wanting to buy guns and shoot people... omg, it's converted me into a KILLER..

seriously though, it's an 18 for a reason, but it is the parents that get the choice. I used to work on the tills at a store that sold computer games, and a 13 year old wanted to buy a 15 game, but his "grandma" was with him, he handed it to me, and handed over the cash, I refused, grandma said she was buying it for him, but i still refused, as it was for someone under the age... blah blah..it's not my place to say whether that game was right for that child, but at the time, it was law, and we were told to stick with it..

    M

i think the certificates should be there more as a guidance rather than saying definitely no-one under this age should see it. so i would also agree with refusing to sell them to people under that age because they could be being sneaky and not telling their parents about it.

If video games actually influenced behaviour then in the 80s we'd all have been listening to repetative music and popping pills having played Pacman.

Seriously, anyone who is weak minded enough to turn into a psychopath having played a computer game would probably have turned into a psychopath via 100 other totally unrelated causes.

And why did children immitate cowboys and indians?? Because they saw it on TV!! Westerns were all the rage in the 40's/50's/60's!

You have a very narrow minded view of this by saying "Where are kids going to get an ak-47 from?". I've not once said it was purely the guns that were the problem, its the volient nature of the game that's the problem.

Would you let a 13 year old child watch a !!!!!! movie? No? Why not? They have an 18 rating just like these games, and after all we're all born naked and sex is a perfectly natural so why not let children watch all the !!!!!! they want!
