London eye - misleading selling

Hi all

Just want to clarify my rights before making a complaint.

Basically on Friday past I went with my partner on the Cupids Capsule on the London eye, basically it advertises and sells you 2 people in the capsule with a host, a bottle of champagne and chocolates. So the flight finishes 30 mins later and we have not yet finished the champagne, I ask if they have a bar or an area inside where we can finish of the champagne (bearing in mind I paid a blooming fortune for the 30 minute flight) and was told no they had no such thing and I could not take it with me either (this I can understand).

Also the flight came with complimentary tickets to the new 4-D show which I did not get.

Basically am I within my rights to complain and expect a refund, if only partially. They advertise and sell the experience based on a bottle of champagne and that’s not what I got. As pedantic as it sounds complaining about the leftovers of a bottle the flight was a rip off anyway and the thought of the staff supping up my champagne after closing time doesn’t really sit well with me!!

The 4-D tickets don’t really bother me but its something extra to throw in the complaint if I go ahead I guess

Cheers
Dag

I don't understand what you are complaining about?

    http://www.londoneye.com/TicketsAndPrices/Flights/ChampagneFlight/Default.aspx?promoType=hp&promoId=20

    The relevant bit:-

The flight on The Merlin Entertainments London Eye lasts for approximately 30 minutes, the time it takes for the London Eye to revolve completely.

Seems fairly clear and if you haven't finished it then you neck it before departing...;)

  • I see where your coming from, but youve got the wrong flight, the one you linked is a regular flight where champagne is served by the glass. The one i booked was a private flight with a bottle provided.

My point is that they sell the package based on the whole bottle being part of it but confiscate it roughly 4/5ths of the way round therefore you do not get what you have paid for or they have advertised and sold you. If they advise that the bottle is for consumption in the capsule only then fair enough but they dont, hence why i'm miffed!

I agree with Hintza - you knew the 'flight' was 30 minutes duration so you got what was advertised, you got a bottle of champagne.
The fact you didn't drink it all in the 30 minutes was down to you and your partner.
Just curious about your statement that the flight was a rip-off - exactly how were you ripped off?

I think the only complaint you have is the lack of 4-D tickets.
    Why didn't you get them?
    Did you ask for them?
    If not, why not?
  • My argument is I didnt get the bottle, i got x amount from a bottle which in my opinion is not what I paid for.

i cant see how you were ripped off, you had half an hour to drink the bottle, your choice whether it wasn't drunk in half hour

You DID get the bottle - you just didn't drink all the contents.

How much of the champagne was left over?
Did they take your glasses off you 6 or so minutes before the end of the 'flight'? Or just the bottle?
If they took the bottle but left you with the glasses, did they fill them up first?
I'd personally have hung onto the bottle until the advertised 30 minute 'flight' was over.

Still curious about your statement that the flight was a rip-off - exactly how were you ripped off?

I can't see how you were ripped off. You got a private "booth", champagne and the trip around the wheel. £400+ is a lot of money but you did agree to pay for it. Buyer's remorse?
  • Ok so the Rip off statement is incorrect, I wasnt ripped off but I did not get what I had paid for.

I guess I just feel for the money spent and the fact they never mention anywhere about only having the bottle for the duration of the flight I was mis informed.

No not buyers remorse, I dont mind spending the money, but had I been better informed I would have made the most of the bottle!!
