I have made these (without the hairslide) and attached some gold thread to the back to use as hanging christmas tree decorations
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Christmas-Tree-Hair-Bow-Clip
I have made 34 and have enough materials left over to make another 4 or 5, and am sending them to my family instead of christmas cards this year...as well as adorning my tree with them.
I bought my 3 lots of 5m apple green ribbon, and 1x5m brown ribbon from this ebay seller for £4.91

And got my gold bows from this one for £1.74

although I see they are closing there are plenty of other sellers selling the same type of thing.

Fab ideas on this thread, my little one is only just 3 so l'm cutting out felt shapes, he's sticking them to card and decorating with beads, buttons, glitter etc.
I cut out and keep all those annoying bits of ribbon that are in the shoulders of clothes for the hanging ribbons.
I've also got some paper chain bits of paper and we're having a REAL tree which we never had even when l was little - l can't wait!

I've had a Snowflake decorating theme, a Snowman theme and a Father Christmas theme - all using cut out garlands. If you remember the dolls holding hands chains then just draw a suitable shape for your theme, if not I'll try to explain - excuse the mistakes!
Make up a length of paper about 4" wide and about 2' long [sticky tape pieces together] I use the backs of letters etc. You need plain paper ideally.
Fold this concertina fashion so that you end up with a set of 2" wide and 4" high [fold along the long edge] folded up pieces.
Draw HALF a Snowman, with hand extended OVER the fold, in such a way that when you open out the first bit the image has his tummy ON THE FOLD. Fold back up and cut away the background area - it can help if you shade it in so you know which bit to cut out.
Unfold and pin up.
For icicles I used to cut long lengths of tin foil [about 6" wide] and cut out irregular "spiky" triangles. The advantage is that if you have a draughty window it makes a tinkly noise [this is the ONLY advantage to a draughty window!]
I used to go to https://www.janbrett.com as she offers lots of Christmas decorating ideas, and they're beautiful. If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -

Have you considered making decorations by recycling stuff? http://www.recyclenow.com/christmas_09/upcycled_decorations.html

What a great site edkay, lots of 'green' ideas!
Loved the page on gifts made from recycled objects too. It could cost a fortune though if you had to buy all those pens to make the chandelier!
