OS Daily Thread - Monday 9th November

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 9th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

For those regs who don't post at the weekends, I wanted to show this message from Tristan again..

Diva, continued good vibes for Tris, does he know he has a load of concerned sisters/aunties/mothers/friends over here wishing him well ???? :D
I copied and pasted and here is his reply:
Tristan says:
Sure do. Very sweet. Tell all of them thank you.
Sunflower - Oh gosh honey, no wonder you haven't been posting, I wondered where you were. I am so so sorry you have been through the mill and I do hope with all my heart it was just a one off reaction and next time it will be better. Big hugs.gifhon.
Cranky - still in my thoughts
Mioliere - I am not sure I want Ali in the Strictly final as she leaves me really cold although I can see what a good dancer she is.
jc2703 - I hope you feel better soon.
Molly - continued hugs.giffor you
Mrs_mix - I hope you are feeling better today
Nic1 - Happy Anniversary for yesterday

Managed to get out into the garden for about half an hour yesterday afternoon before frost bite set into my fingers.. Surprisingly I was able to harvest about another 8 green peppers and a big dishful of mixed green and red chillis! Oh and the final two leeks which we ate with our final roast dinner before Christmas. (Well unless we find any knocked down joints of course). An added advantage of having the oven on is that it heats up the adjoining lounge really well!

For all you cook book and Archers fans out there, I found THIS on Amazon. Looks to be a lovely book with some nice recipes in and free postage too! It's definitely going on my 'wanted' list, though I think more for the reading than the recipes, although there are a couple I like the sound of.

Lunch today will be cold pork and pickle sandwiches - I know I should do something more exciting with it to stretch it further but there isn't a huge amount there and my OH loves cold pork! Dinner will be tortilla I think to use up some of the fresh peppers we picked before we freeze the rest. Am going to have a go at drying the chillis either in the oven or hanging up, threaded onto fishing line.

WM and BM are on and I have a nice big mug of redbush tea next to me so all is right with the world so far. Now if I can only get Tristan to 'smile', life would be perfect but alas, he is in so much pain he is a bit grumpy. He won't log off though so maybe I am distracting him a little from it all. For those of you who didn't read over the weekend, he had an emergency kidney transplant 3 days ago.

Anyway, I hope you all have a good start to the week. With love, light and squidgyHShuggies.gif for anyone who would like one.

I'm off to work soon, these extra long days are a bit of a shock to the system, I'm starting early & hubby doesn't finish till 10, I shall be glad to go back to my normal start time. We're still not sure when he's finishing at school, possibly 27th Nov, depends on when the new person comes in for training.
I've had my breakfast, but need to have a scrummage in the freezer for something for tea & I've made egg sarnies for lunch for us both.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Very cold here this morning, I have put the heating on for an hour to warm through, might have to give in and put it on timed, lasted quite well though :T.

Diva, I still have peppers and chillis on my plants too, although mine are in the conservatory, but I have a load still ripening :j, hugs to Tris.

Tired mum good luck for your ds today, hope all goes well xx

Nic1 Happy Anniversary to you both xx

Diddn't get am awful lot done yesterday, it was very cold here, so we had a mainly stay in day, although we took little dog up the beach and played hide and seek in the sand dunes with her :D, I also made some Twinks, raisin and choc chip, and a coffee and walnut cake.

Dinner tonight will be hm burgers, wedges and peas, oh and by the way we ate a quarter of the huge cabbage yesterday, and got 6 portions off of it, so the whole cabbage will give us 24 portions :T not bad for 49p

One of dd's friends was on facebook yesterday, saying that people were lucky to have a roast each week as she only ever got one on Xmas day  the poor child, i felt so sorry for her she is coming round next week for a roast chicken, I came over all maternal, :rotfl::rotfl:

Ok better get on, the usual housework and shopping today, and washing as ever

    Have fun all xx

    Morning everyone.

Got a slight headache this morning which I think is down to tiredness. DS wet the bed last night so was changing that at 3am and then he mucked about going to bed so finally got into my own bed at 5am.
And I can't believe it - for the second time in a week DD decided during bath time she was going to do a poo  First time I had to catch it with my bare hand before it ended up in the water, this time wasn't so lucky and it all ended up in the bath water  So he're me frantically fishing it out (again with my bare hands) before whipping the kids out of the bath water. I swear there are some things I shouldn't have to do as a mum :o

Tea tonight will be fish (pollock) probably cooked in tinned toms.
Have to do a small shop, might go to Mr T and see what they have (want their value oats).
Most washing up to date and H did all the ironing last night :T Bless that man :D

Diva - sorry Tris is in pain but good that he's still "talking" to you.

Hilstep - glad DD's pregnancy is going well. Are they finding out the "flavour" at the next scan?

Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

    Hi,
Thankyou to everyone for their kind words and supportive pms. Im really hoping that today is much better.
MSD - I hope Tris continues to improve. I have the old version of Jenifer Aldridges cookbook being an avid archers addict.

Well hopefully my cleaner is coming today so will get organised for that shortly. My youngest DS (13) has just told me that he has dusted and tidied his bedroom. Bless him!!! Why cant they all do their bit like he does? Im planning to make a quiche for tea as i have all the ingredients but have not had the energy for a few days. Kids dad is coming later to talk about organising christmas. He is worried as normally its done by now:eek:. I said that I would transfer the money and he could go and do it but he went rather pale at the thought of it. To be honest im dreading it this year...its so much hassle and kids have such high expectations. Not presents as such but the little bits that take so much energy to organise.

Hope that you are feeling better Sunflower - a day at a time.. an hour at a time and a minute at a time.

    Hugs,
    Mollyx

    Morning all

Winter seems to have arrived, got up today to fog and cold dreary weather. Back to work today after 2 weeks leave, that's going to be a wake up call, especially if we have a busy Monday!
We went away in our touring caravan for the weekend and watched a firework display - it's run by the local Round Table and is always very good, the weather stayed dry although cold but the fireworks were amazing. Have only 1 more weekend away now between now and Xmas, the next one is just me and hubby as we will be in meetings etc then we have the New Year rally that we are running with another family - that will be hard work as providing 3 course hot evening meals for 70 people for 4 nights! Have done this for the last 2 years I do really enjoy it but it is hard work.

Not much OS to report, need to go and get ready for work, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all, just a quick one from me as I'm dashing here there and everywhere today :( I have been in since 6.30 am, the cells have been fed and watered and my machine cleaned so I'm almost done for the day.

Sunflower - big hug for you
MSD - sorry Tris is in pain but so glad he is in contact with you

My uncle died at the weekend, so I'm waiting for notice to go home for the funeral. :( He had been ill, but it was unexpected and very sudden :( My dad is dreadfully upset. I made a card that I need to send to my aunt today :(

I have 29 separate sugar paste panels on the lounge table that need to be painted, dried and assembled round a scale model of my department made out of lemon sponge before the head of departments birthday *sigh* I thought it was wednesday, but according the calendar it looks like Tuesday. I may be going home early today as I also have to make a fruit base to support this leviathan and I haven't done the sponge yet. The lesson I have learnt from this is: I'd have made a dreadful architect and I'd wished I'd listened more in my geometry lessons :) I need to pop outside and take some photos to get the colour right. *sigh*

At least if I work, I don't have time to get stressed. I haven't heard from my insurance company yet and OH's divorce is getting ever messier. I cannot reply to something I don't have and if they think I'm going to be in my house during the day waiting for them to to deliver it, they are mistaken. This apparently is "avoiding service" so I spent most of the weekend logging my entry and exit times from this building over the past few months and the times of my e-mails to collegues in an attempt to prove I've been doing nothing of the sort and I've just been working. It isn't abnormal for me to spend 16 hours a day in this place and to work weekends. It's just the nature of the work. :( I'm so tired of it all and I don't know what to do any more. The worse thing is is that I have not at any point had anything to reply to, nothing from the court, nothing from the people delivering the thing, nothing from her solicitor, so I can't do anything at all. I am not telepathic?!? The worse thing is that I will unfortunetly have to fight it in some way when it does arrive, so I don't know what to do for the best. They are trying to get it sorted before OH takes it to court on the 4th Jan - but in reality if they wanted it done, they could just remove me from it and it would go through. They need to get a wriggle on, I'm out of the country for two weeks out of the next six and will be in another part of the UK for at least two more of those off and on.

OS wise, last night I made bacon, cheese and spinach scones, they rose beautifully, smelt wonderful, looked amazing and tasted absolutely foul. I have no idea what went wrong. Dinner tonight will jacket potatoes and veggie chilli I think.

Right - I must go and face the music, but I am determined to dance like a crazy thing :D have a good day all and hugs for those that would like one. cel x

    Good morning,

Cel sorry to hear about your uncle. Hugs to you and your family
Hilstep I thought my eyes had gone funny when I turned 40. It was the air conditioning at work drying out my contact lenses....
MSD get well vibes for Tris
Bitsy One day we'll look back on these childhood horrors and laugh. As far as I can tell it'll be in about 15 years from now, sigh!

I think I'm having a paperwork morning today. I have some stuff that I have to post, and some cheques that I have to hand deliver. Grumpy the house elf has requested a chicken dinner with "soft carrot" for tonight's meal. He means mashed carrot and turnip. I am a big fan of chicken dinners, so I'll have the same.

I need to hoover, but I have to go to Grumpy's school this afternoon. It's a parents "reading with your child" thingy, so the cleaning may have to wait until tomorrow.

    Take care all of you.
