AVG Installation/Uninstallation problems

Have you tried booting into safe mode then running the removal tool I posted above?

If this doesn't work go to Start -> type services.msc, press return, then right click and stop any services with AVG in the name. Now try the removal tool.

If this doesn't work then download the Revo tool mentioned above but make sure to save it to your desktop. Install then reboot back into safe mode then try uninstalling AVG using this.

If none of the above works, download AVG install files again, double click to install then try either uninstalling here or try a repair, reboot, then try uninstalling.

From reading around on the net it seems this is quite common for people who perform a system restore with AVG installed

If all the above still doesn't work can you try restoring to a system restore point from before this problem occured then uninstall AVG?

Thanks, guys - I'll try what you suggest but probably need to be in a slightly calmer frame of mind before I do!! I'm moderately computer literate but get a little jumpy if I have to start doing things I'm not completely sure of. My motto is, if you're not sure, don't mess with it!! lol

However, I will try it and let you know - unless I decide just to wave the white flag and pay someone to sort it for me, even though it goes against the grain.

Well, I think it's bad news. I've tried everything that's been suggested and nothing worked. Even in safe mode, Malware Bytes wouldn't load.

One thing I have just noticed - in the search window on the AVG toobar (even though it's disabled) appears "tchnt-ysct", which looks as though it may be some sort of virus or Trojan. Oh well, I tried!

When you say malwarebytes wouldnt load you mean install?
RIGHT click the .exe file and RENAME it to something else eg - hwe87t34tq.exe

What happens is that it goes through all the appearance of downloading but after I click "Run", nothing else happens. It's just like I hadn't done it at all. Even when I choose "Save" - usually to Desktop, it goes through the motions but doesn't actually save.
