Original firmware should let it burn at 4x. Could be worth a try though.0

Loads of NEC firmwares here..

Some originals and some tweaked
Make sure you don't have a disc in the drive when doing a firmware upgrade!
I use here for my firmwares, never let me down.

Essexdelboy wrote:I have got a NEC DVD RW ND 3520A, which is capable of burning at 16 x (I think) and I am using x4 discs, but for some reason I can only burn at x2 speed, which is taking an absolute age. The discs work perfectly on my dads machine (at 4x speed and using the exact same model DVD RW drive, so I know it is not them).
I am using DVD decrypter or Nero 6 to burn my DVD’s and I am running on Windows XP SP2.
Can anyone help?
Do I have to change some settings on my drive or via my device manager etc?
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
I use the same make n model.
I burn DvD disks at half the speed always so as not to cause drop outs or errors.
Seems like your system might be helping you.0 -

can my machine do this? so if i selected to burn at x2 would it then burn at 1x?
the reason i am asking is that i want to buy some 8x or 16x discs but dont want to waste my money if the drive will only burn at 4x (as i could just by 4x discs)
thanks for everyones input by the way i really appreciate it.Rock on MSE!!!0 -

You can get a pack of gooc DvD disks from Amazon, you can get a cake tower of 50 for about £15.
I use high space DVD-R or for DVD-RW Mr. DVD.
If you double click my computer find DVD drive right click it hit properties move down to bottom drop down menu you can change burning speed.
If you do buy at amazon, check free delivery and if you spend £20+ they give you a free £5 voucher off next purchase.
The High Space ones have yet to fail me, I used 24 of the 50 cake tower.0 -
just to give you all a progres update.
I have flashed my drive with freecom version 3.4 and my ide settings are on DMA, and i will attempt to burn a dvd tommorow and see if i get speeds of >2x. I hope so.
Thanks againRock on MSE!!!0 -
since you use dvd decrypter, insert a blank disc and check what the reported speeds it can burn at are, its in the bit on the right. it should show a list of speeds, like 1x 2x 4x etcWaddle you do eh?0
