Which Phone HTC Hero or N97

I'm due a new phone deal this month and have heard good things about the HTC hero - anyone have any feedback on HTC phones in general???

I have a Nokia N95 8GB at present and am swapping sometime this month.

my question - would you go for the N97 or the HTC Hero??? or is there something else you would choose???

cheers

N97 is rubbish (from my own play experience and 2 friends that have them). The HTC Hero is good. Alternatively, the Nokia N900 is going to be "it", in my opinion. :) Not out until the end of this month and pricey Sim Free (~£500).

  • Thanks Lee

I'll look at the N900 now - i've been with Vodaphone for 8 years and have decided to move - orange probably. I'm going to have a good look for a contract but hopefully get the phone free.

So the N900 - is this going to be the latest sort of must have phone??

neither, both are pretty old tech.

In about a week the n900 and htc hd2 are going to be release (1) which have MUCH faster cpus.

The HD2 has a dual issue 1ghz cpu, 800x640 screen and 448megs ram !!!!!!, thats about the same spec as many netbooks.

    (1) finally, i lost my n82 about 6 weeks ago
  • thanks epz - just looked at the N900 and that looks nice.

I havent used or even seen a HTC phone up close before

Which would you go for HTC hd2 or the N900 (bearing in mind neither are released haha)

I'd take the N900 for the keyboard (and open source OS). The HTC HD2 is more iPhoney. Both are brilliant phones having read the spec of the HTC. It depends what you want. I'd like a keyboard (typing on touch screens alone makes me angry... don't know why!).

thats the dilemma i am having and still havent made up my mind, the n900 is due to land on the 16th, HD2 on the 12th and both have their good points.

    Heres my check list

    hardware

the HD2 has a faster cpu, almost double the real ram, is thinner and has capacitive more scratch proof screen & Digital compass.

but only 512meg storage + microsd, no fm transmitter or front camera

    but the n900 has

a better camera, 32gigs internal memory and real keyboard , the fm transmitter is going to be handy for many but its almost 2cm thick.

    software wise

maemo is basicly a full linux os vs windows mobile 6.5 and an upgrade path to windows mobile 7.

Both again have good and bad points, windows 6.5/7 isnt great but htc tweak the balls off it and there is a heavy duty mod community.

Maemo is going to be pretty rough around the edges coming out and unlike android is still pretty nokia dependant, though linux is by its nature totally open.

If someone put 32gig ram, an fm transmitter and maemo into the HTC HD2 then i would never need to upgrade again but we arnt their yet.

Personally im probably going for the HD2 at the moment but change my mind every couple of days.

EDIT the HD2 doesnt do usb host either
  • I think i will go for the N900 - the HTC seems way too advanced for me haha

Now to find a contract that has texts, minutes and more importantly internet allowance.

    Any recommendations on this one??

I've been holding out for 18 months for "the perfect phone". I'm still waiting... and I think it'd be an endless wait, if I'm honest.

Windows Mobile is fine all the time you're inside the manufacturers "shell". When you leave it to do something off the ball, it's atrocious. Maemo on the other hand is built for mobile devices. :)

Blake: The only option right now is to haggle a great SIM free deal. No network is offering either handset at the moment.

os wise the N900 is actually more advanced software wise, its just the raw horsepower the HD2 has.

these blokes had the n900 on t mobile till they sold all their alotment but still punt it on vodaphone
