    Is it really?

So you've spoken to some chimp at Ikea who don't know the law. You have rights so sort it in the correct way. Why revert to dishonest tactics to get what you are legally entitled to?

You are clearly legally correct in what you say. But the reason for reverting to dishonest tactics is that nothing is being gained that is not legally entitled and to avoid a long and complicated system (IKEA's system) that is probably partially designed to make people give up and buy an entire new product.

The high moral ground is a great place to be but not if it means you are isolated because everyone else is living in the real world down below.

As much as I am annoyed at IKEA I have to say it is a good product and we have been very happy with it until now. I would say you may be don't need to buy as many drawers as you think. Shelves are more convenient (especially higher up) and are covered when you slide the doors closed.

The other thing is you need to make sure the space you are filling is as close to 2m as possible. Our gap was only 180cm so we cut 20cm of the length of the rail. But this means the middle 20cm of our wardrobe is always covered by one (or both) of the doors. It is almost dead space to be honest and if we the gap has been any smaller there would be even more that is hard to reach.

I thought the pax wardrobes were included in the 10 year guarantee
    Taken from site;
    PAX/KOMPLEMENT

What is covered under this guarantee?
This guarantee covers defects in materials and workmanship in the following components of the PAX/KOMPLEMENT wardrobes and interior fittings described below, and is valid from the date of purchase from IKEA. •Frames •Doors •Hinges •Sliding door mechanism •Drawer gliders •Shelves and clothes rails.

Thnaks Manda - I will quote that if my initial email doesn't get anywhere.

    Generallly I like Ikea.

Not keen on their customer service attitude, in Wembly or Milton Keynes, though. Seems they get a LOT of hassle from customers, who are at fault (not Ikea) & forget that sometimes, we're in the right!!

You might check http://www.ikeafans.com for LOADS info!!

You really should get off that high horse. Retailers do have a duty not to provide something that is not fit for purpose, regardless of the 'warranty' they provide which I also understood to be more than a year on most Ikea items anyway. 2 years is not long enough for a part of a wardrobe - no one expects to replace one after 2 years - and it makes a mockery of the way they show off how their parts are designed to last for ages and ages.

The simple fact is that in-store customer services in Ikea are renowned for dreadful in-store customer services. My own personal experience of trying to exchange a faulty item resulted in a member of stafff trying to eject me from the store! I had a three month old in my arms and had not even raised my voice - they simply take the attitude that all customers are wrong! I was blatantly lied to and she then went on to lie to the Head of CS (which I might add, she said she was!) and the store manager. The result of that was a written apology from the store manager and a gift card.

It may be 'underhand' but the way the OP is being treated by Ikea is underhand. I would simply take the path of least resistance tog et what I was entitled to. there is no law that says a customer has to go through hell to try and get something to which they are entitled.

The OP is legally entitled to a replacement part for an item unfit for purpose.

Have I ever said he isn't?

I just can see where it helps advising someone to commit a crime in order to get their legal rights.

Or would it be better for you if I'd advised the OP to go to his nearest store complete with a screwdriver and nick a new set of rollers off the display doors?

    http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_IE/customer_service/ikea_services/guarantee.html

    Everyday Quality 10 year guarantee:
"This guarantee covers defects in materials and workmanship in the following components of the PAX/KOMPLEMENT wardrobes and interior fittings described below, and is valid from the date of purchase from IKEA. •Frames •Doors •Hinges •Sliding door mechanism •Drawer gliders •Shelves and clothes rails.

So how exactly is the OP breaking the law by simply trying to bypass an idiot CS Rep who doesn't understand their own warranties?

When the police come and arrest the OP for asking for a sliding door mechanism that is covered by a 10 year guarantee and they is therefore entitled to? It's not fraud, it's not theft, it's not criminal and no-one can argue that. It's simply taking the path of least resistance; why be forced into an argument with them when it's them in the wrong. If anything, it's Ikea that have acted fraudulently by refusing something to a customer after they've sold him a 10 year guarantee.

I'm sure the OP considers your apology accepted, I accept yours for accusing me of enticing people to commit crime.

I wouldn't advise the OP to take a screwdriver as they're entitled to a new mechanism, not a used one.

I'd call the number and tell them you've just bought it and there is a bit missing. I've done this in the past (genuinely) and they have sent out the whole fittings pack again for me without quibble or proof of purchase.

makes an excuse about the receipt being left in your jeans pocket and has done a tour in the washing machine, leaving it unreadable. ;)

If they still wont budge then I would also ring and say the said part is missing from a new product.

I know he should have a new part supplied. But.

Are any of the above true ands has it actually happened like suggested?
Are any honest accounts of the OPs problems?
Now go and read the theft act.
