I would have interepteded this as putting in the original disc supplied with the computer. The windows disc is upgrading the OS but the original would contain the driver and applications information. The windows disc in an upgrade not a clean installation disc.

I received two disks with my upgrade pack. The Windows 7 one and the Acer one. The Acer one contained drivers, etc for use with Windows 7. The part you bolded was actually in the instuction paperwork and was definitely meaning the Acer disk. I got no disk with my laptop when I bought it.

Thanks for the help everyone <3

If pressing [F12] doesn't do anything, you probably need to enable the option in the BIOS settings utility.

Press [F2] during startup, select Main and change F12 Boot Menu from [Disabled] to [Enabled]. To save the changes, press [F10].

Okay, enabled the F12 option. Started it up using that and selecting the CD/DVD drive but it is just doing the same *sigh*

my old vista upgrade disc that came with a dell installation assistant disc, but the upgrade disc itself is bootable so I could use it to do a clean install. win7 covers almost all the drivers you need or it can dl from ms for you , so you dont really need that acer disc, which is most likely all about some unnecessary acer utility softwares.so you shouldnt have used it in the first place.
anyway, if you are sure the win7 disc is not bootable and you dont know how to reinstall your old system, there's one way you can try: find a win7 copy(there're many around on the net) download it,burn it, install it then change the product key to your genuine one afterwards. oh,dont forget the backup if needed.
    good luck

    Thanks.

The problem is I can't see anything to do anything. Even if I had a copy from the net I can't put it in my laptop and see it to install it.... am I making any sense?

Just to explain more. When you start it up normally you would get the background wallpaper and then the icons, taskbar, etc would appear. For mine the wallpaper is appearing but it is getting no further, I am getting nothing else but the wallpaper. When I ctrl+alt+del the screen goes black but other than that nothing else does anything. :(

you need to boot from the cd rather than from the HD which will lead you to the messed-up win7,put the win7 dvd in the cd drive, turn off the laptop then turn it on, you should see '' press any key to boot from CD''... if you dont see it, it means you need to change the boot sequence in SETUP/BIOS. after changing the boot sequence, save and exit, then you can boot from the win7 dvd to do a clean install, format the drive C when you see the option so win7 wont back up any 'old windows' files for you, provided you have no files on C to worry about keeping already.

Okay in the boot menu I have

    1. IDEO: Hitachi HTS545050B9A300 -(S
    2. CD/DVD: Slimtype DVD A DS8A3S -(S2
    3. Network Boot: MBA v11.4.1 Slot 0300

Which should I use? Although I have tried all three and nothing different happens... I'm so confused

    Have tried this:

"In safe mode, go to start->run, type in msconfig, and the system configuration window will come up.

First, try clicking on startup and say disable all, then say apply. Try restarting your computer and loading it normally, and see if it lets you get anywhere. If it does, you can go back into msconfig and start enabling startup items again until you find the one that is messing you up. "

with no difference, just in case it helps with anything...

hitachi is your hard drive and dvd drive should be the first to boot from.
switch the 1 and 2 by move one up or down and save/exit then you got it.
