You don't say where that appears.

Sorry, that appears on-screen when you make a payment.
    If you think that:

"For amounts over the Faster Payments Scheme limits, you will still need to use CHAPS, for which the normal charge will apply."

in the booklet "A guide to our personal accounts" they sent you is incorrect then fair enough.

Given that in the paragraph preceding that it says: "If a payment is made between banks that are not in the scheme or if a payment which is more than the scheme limits is sent, we will send it through BACs" - who knows what they mean!

I haven't so far succeeded in finding a page for historic/discontinued account rates.

Hi. I think you will find what you are looking for by typing Pathway Account Ulster Bank into google and clicking onto the cashed icon in the bottom right hand corner. It shows the overview of the Pathway Account including both interest rates.

    hope this helps.

Yes, but since it's a cached version it's just showing a snapshot of the page as it appeared on 30 Jan 2010 14:53:28 GMT. If they should change the rate that page won't get updated.

  • Yes. The published AER includes the bonus.

If an amount larger than £10k is entered as an online payment the message displayed is:
    "Customer Advice:
    • The amount must be between £0.01 and £10,000.00. If you need to speak to an Anytime agent please call 08457 424 365."
There's no option for using a standard BACS transfer and the sentence in their terms that any amount over the FP limit requires CHAPS seems fairly unambiguous. If it is incorrect then presumably you could find out by phoning that number.

Current interest info can be found by downloading the PDF on the page
"Summary Boxes for Savings Accounts (PDF)" which is towards the top of the page "Account summary and rates - Overview"

I am writing to Ulster bank to confirm that CHAPS can be used on the account (telephone staff have repeatedly said that you cannot use CHAPS on this account"

I have found that you cannot rely on their staff for correct info

    Thanks, I'd not tried that.

That's the problem, both statements seem unambiguous, yet they are contradictory.

As far as I can see, when you make a withdrawal it doesn't actually say BACS anywhere, but it does state "The money will leave your account immediately. You should allow 3 business days for your payment to reach the payee", which sounds like BACS to me.....

made a payment recently from Ulster to Lloyds and it was instantaneous :j

Out of curiousity did you notice whether it still displayed the '3 business days' message? I'm guessing they'll know whether the recipient bank can receive faster payments, so may display a different message?

(All a bit hypothetical for me, despite having a ridiculous number accounts with a large number of financial institutions, I've yet to encounter 'faster payments'!)
