Can't you turn the radiators off in the rooms you don't want to heat? Even the old ones usually have a thing to turn at the side?

unfortunately not. The main bedroom one has a thermostat number control thingy and if that is 'off' then all the others are too. All the others need to be on just for 1 to work - it's a bit of a carpy system really .

I have 2 throws in the living room, we have one each on the sofa (heaven forbid he might want to sit next to me under the same one) and I have the furry and much warmer one than him :D so it is very snuggly without the heating on but that's only until I venture out of the throw and doesn't help that I'm in the spare bedroom on the lappy!!

Sammy, if I didn't know you better I'd think that was a joke...

Snaggles, sorry I didn't realise how formal they were.

The mediterranean stew I was having has turned out to be a winter veg one. Next time I batch cook I'm definitely figuring out a way to label the food! I think it's going to take a while to defrost though, it's had 5 mins and was only slightly softened on top.

No heating on here, but that's more due to not having proper heating. It's not very brave (or mad!) when you've no real option.

DH's pressies are wrapped.....cakes are made and iced (he wanted individuals rather than a large one), choccy chip and walnut cookies are cooling and I made some rather lovely chorizo, red pepper and cheese pastry things for tea (using up an inch of chorizo I had left in the fridge).

Have planned to take DH out for breakfast tomorrow after DD's have gone to school, then we're off for a wander (well a very slow push) around town.....not sure it's the 39th birthday he was hoping for

Snaggs - The photo sounds lovely.

BB-what you need is a log burner-I bought a HUUGGE one with my redundancy money years ago, best money I ever spent! You can get quite small ones, they heat up rooms beautifully with a lovely type of heat, and nothing beats a real fire to snuggle in front of....

funny you should say that - OH said last night why not get one. I already have a 'hole' in my chimney breast which would need the bottom part knocking out. He said it would 'only' be around £1000  to buy one. Because I only have a teensy bit of savings left I can't think about that kind of thing now, even though I love log burners :( and as he takes forever to do anything (I still have the laminate piled up in the hall I bought nearly 5 years ago  )I can't see buying one would have a quick benefit as it would languish in a box for a few years to come

And of course, my OH doesn't do 'snuggling'. :(

You've got a lot going on Sammy, so it's no wonder you are having difficulty sleeping, but if you are then feeling crappy because of the lack of sleep, it will make it even harder to deal with all the other stuff.

Go to the docs and see what they say. Even a couple of decent nights might help break the cycle.

Burnt fishfingers are nicer than normal ones....that's what I tell my kids anyway...:D

Sammy, I meant that he had that book - I thought he'd gone out and bought it recently, sorry if I offended.

Pooky the pastry sounds nice, I love chorizo.
