OS Daily Thread - Saturday 7th November

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 7th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Pitlanepiglet - hope you have a great day
Cranky - Still in my thoughts and prayers.
Haribo - Your story about the mice made me smile, thank you hon.
Lesley - Great to see you posting.
Curly - I think it's great you are buying 2nd hand toys etc, it's true recycling!
Lowesy - Hope you feel more rested today.
Tiredmum - I confess, it was me who got Bargain and Noahs and others addicted to smilies. I am a smilie pusher! And now I have Sunny, Sistercas and Taplady in my evil grasp too.
Though in my defence I have usually tried to be subtle in my useage..
SunnyGirl - I did write how to do it the day after you asked honey - you just highlight, right click and copy and paste!
Taplady - I hope Janet gets the results she wants.
Ladyshopper - He is still in ICU but at least I got to speak to him for 10 mins yesterday.
flutterby - hope you feel better today.
Churchmouse - Please don't worry about too little OS content, as long as you have some then please post away! We miss you. Look at my posts, I am hardly OS Queen of the week, but noone has asked me to stop posting yet. (though I am sure many would like to!
)
flutterby - hope you feel better today.
Halight - how are you doing? Let us know please.
everyone, for all the continued thoughts and prayers for Tris. He logged on about 1500 yesterday our time for 10 mins.. (not sure he was supposed to have his laptop on in ICU) and told me he felt like he had been run over by a bus and was still in a lot of pain but I was not to worry and he would be OK. However our mutual friend logged on just a while ago and he had had to be taken in for yet more surgery so it's not going as well as it might.
My OH brought home some knocked down 1/4lb burgers from Sainsburys and so we are having them for dinner tonight with bacon and cheese and fried onions. Am really looking forward to them covered in mustard and tomato sauce! Yumyumyum. Lunch will be the rest of the brie and crispbreads for me.. the cheese is so ripe it's almost sliding off the plate - perfection to me and comments about smelling like old socks from my OH!
I must write out my Avon order as it's due tomorrow. I love their straight and sleek range for my hair. Just want the weather to be less showery, I need garden time, I haven't been out of the house in a week and it's driving me crazy.
I hope you all have a good start to the weekend. With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning people.
Wet cold and windy here again. Not sure what we are going to do today (after dropping kids to work etc).
Did the asda shop last night and bought too many luxury goods and blew my budget a bit. Got stuff to take to USA on holiday for people like 10x 400g bars of Galaxy as they were on offer. 4 tins of Roses, also on offer. Will quite heavy going over!
Still need gift ideas for presents.. T shirts with something English on them?
well hope everyone has a good day.... cheers
Some good deals in Asda. Croft sherry 1 litre £5. Heinz beans 4 pack £1 Butter 50p block 1% milk 50p 2 litre.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all, been up all night with my DS2 who now has a temp of 39.7. Iv given him calpol used a cool flannel and got the temp down to 38.5. Im no longer a student but a staff nurse now. It so scarry when your kids are ill, I think that we will need to get the swine flu pills as he has other signs as well.
Im off to work today so will be leaving DS2 with DH. Its not nice being a working mum sometimes as employers are not always helpful.
On a plus note yesterday I got lots of my xmas shopping done on the net and made tea for today. so DH and DS2 can just snuggle up in front of the telly.
I hope your all well and enjoyed all the fireworks. Hugs to all x x0 -
Morning everyone.
I have a 3 hours course in Safeguarding children this afternoon. I shall be like this
as DS came to see us at 5am. I have managed to get him back off to sleep about 15 mins ago but DD was awake so have had to get up. H didn't sleep well either so I will let him lie in and see if I can squeeze in a quick nap before I have to leave at 12.30pm.
As such I can't see much OS happening today
Should be cajun chicken for tea but don't have the sauce (this is the ONLY jar of sauce I ever buy - honest
) and I am not sure if I will have time to make the tortillas. Hmmmm could end up with a baked spud instead - have some lovely large ones in my big bag we bought the other day.
Happy Birthday Pitlanepiglet - have a good day
Diva - Still sending positive vibes for Tris. And I for one hope you never stop posting
studengirl - hope DS2 is better soon poor thing x
N9eav - sadly the nearest Asda to us is a good 20 min drive away thereby negating with petrol costs any potential savings
Have a good day all OS or not.
group hug for all that need them.
Apologies for the overuse of smilies - I am like a kid in a candy shop and I just can't help myself :rotfl:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Morning all,
Awake at silly o'clock this morning (5 !!) why is it that when I could potentially lay in bed all morning that I am awake at bl***y sparrows f**t
Not sure what the weather will do today, we seem to have had rain for days on end, I have two loads to do in the wm, one in now, will have to be inventive getting it dry, still no heating here :T
It was supposed to be chicken curry tonight, but sainsbugs left the chicken off my order, ( they did refund me double though :money:) so will have to rummage in the freezer in a while, and find something else.
N9eav, when we went to the US, I took mainly chocolate, but they also asked for T-bags, choc digestives, whelks !!!! (in a jar) salad cream amongst other things. Unfortunatly we do not have an Asda either, nearest one is probably 30 miles away
Diva, continued good vibes for Tris, does he know he has a load of concerned sisters/aunties/mothers/friends over here wishing him well ????
Jayne and George how are you doing ? and how is kitty ??
Hugs to all in need, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
A lazy start to the day for me, I've been awake since 5, but stayed in bed til 7 watching TV & drinking tea.
The kitchen & lounge need a swish & swipe, I have piles of washing to do & loads of paperwork to sort out. I need to check the fridge & freezer today & see how little I need to spend. Hubby was asked to work overtime this morning, it seems the people employed by the school cannot do some of the work needed!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Goodmorning,
Thanks for all your support this week. I have woken up this morning determined to be more positive cos I reached an all time low yesterday afternoon. I think the stress had built up over my meeting with HR and matron which was really a non-event as they "adjourned" it to get further reports. So my next meeting is the middle of December - oh joy Merry Christmas. Its such a battle and I do feel like giving up.
NPM - I really dont understand how they can discipline you for being ill. Its our vocation and we give so much of ourselves. Id never heard of the Bradford Score - mine must be through the roof!!!! They must be using it though but no-one has ever mentioned it to me.
Determined to regain my OS ways. A trip to Costco today and need to restock my freezer. Kids dad is here already and walking the doggies. Poor Poppy spent the night shuddering under a blanket and in my DD room cos of the fireworks.
Hope everyone has a restful Saturday,
Love MollyI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning Everyone
Lazy morning for me today.I just love Saturdays as theres no lunchboxes to fill and I leave the ironing till this afternoon. But as its Saturday the kids want to go shopping in Accrington. My youngest wants to add to his mountainous toy soldier collection, and the other three will want yet more go-go's.I need to go to asda later as I want to take advantage of the 2tins for £7 offer as they make great teaching assistant prezzies come Christmas and the offer end Sunday
We always have what we call a feast on Saturday so table will be filled with loads of edible goodies and the kids can eat what they want whilst we all watch a movie and x-factor later.Plus a large voddie for me of course lol
OS wise I'll be doing the ironing and the cleaning when I get back and putting the bread machine on for the Pizza bases.I won an indian takeaway for two on the local radio a couple of weeks ago so I'll redeem that to add to our feast tonight so thats quite a saving
MSD-Very worrying that they keep having to take Tris back into surgery.Have you any idea why?Is it just bleeds?By the way thanks for the burger idea I might just try that out on the tinies it sounds delicious
Hester-The school you work for are horrid people and I personally would tell them where to shove their job but times are hard and jobs are hard to come by so I can fully understand why you dont but I really hope this so called perfect person they have employed turns out to be a right duck-egg and they have to come back cap in hand to the minder to get him to sort it out

Good Morning All
Didnt catch up with the thread yesterday as took the day off from everything so I could get rid of this cold at last. Seems to have worked quite well - still have bit of a cough but nothing compared to what it was.
So needless to say have loads to do today, OH hoovered & polished the house yesterday he even did the hob, hood and oven doors :jwhich I hate doing. So this weekend will be concentrating on cleaning the bathrooms and ironing.
Have got to take DD to her 2nd HPV injection this morning which is in town 1/2 hour away - its where Olly from Xfactor comes from & his posters are everywhere. Need some bits from Boots & they have a Costa there so will be treating myself to a coffee. Once home will make lasagne for dinner tonight then get on with the ironing.
Have a great Satuday whatever you are doing.x0 -
Morning all
Why is it that weekdays I get up at 7.30 everyday, weekend comes, I'm absolutely knackered and I wake at 7am?!! Grrr! :rotfl:
But I've used it to my advantage. DW and WM on (cheap electricty time too). Just debating whether to put washing outside to dry as it's very chilly out so I think it won't really do much.
It's a beautiful morning here, sun is peaking out through the few clouds, tide is in and it looks very calm out
Mammoth tidy will start as soon as I get off MSE! Parents are due around 11. But I think they are only popping in for an hour, I have offered them lunch but they want to go to a big furniture store and they do nice lunches there so they turned me down! :rotfl:Other than that I think I will have a lazy day and watch the rugby (Wales V New Zealand).
Lunch will probably be a sandwich, dinner will be pizza, HM sauce but shop base.
MSD - Hope Tris is ok
Have a lovely Saturday all

morning
Just lost a big post I did
Not much OS here today, going to see Michael Jackson film at 12, parents arriving at 3 from Edinburgh, we are swapping xmas presents
and they are bringing us a big flat screen tv they dont need anymore. We will be having takeaway later and watching x factor.....Go Jamie
Did make a batch of carrot soup yesterday for freezer portions and am going to get more pickling onions and vinegar this weekend.
Molly sorry they are messing you about.....all trusts use Bradford score now....google it it makes interesting reading.
Studentgirl as a fellow staff nurse I say get him checked out just incase he has an underlying infection....I had the same with DS a couple of weeks ago. Temp 39.6 and hallucinating. They will prob try to fob you off on the phone and say it is swine fu but I insisted someone saw him as he is ony 6, it was a Sat but emergency GP checked him over. It is up to you about the tamiflu but after talking to GP I didnt give him it. It only reduces the virus by one day and causes diarrhoea and vomiting, as DS was dehydrated I didnt want any of that. Hope he gets well soon.
MSD prayers and thoughts for Tris0
