My overpayments for this month total £400.44.
I may not be able to overpay by very much from now on as I have decided to buy a horse.
Would like to hear other people's views (especially horse owners)? Do you think I should concentrate on my mortgage and forget the horse until it's paid off?
Sounds like you've thought about it a great deal. Sometimes the mortgage free vs. life experiences is a difficult call but after reading your post...........I'd go for the Horse. On the otherhand..........putting it off for say 3 years isn't a big deal either and am sure the time would go fairly quickly. I think for the sound of your post - the horse is winning. If you go for it then I hope you enjoy every minute - I wish there was something in my life that would mean so much to me

Thanks Curlygirl and FlowerPower for your replies. Yes, you're right, the horse is winning at the moment but I just wanted some reassurance that I'm not being totally stupid so thank you. I have thought about it long and hard and, other than my mortgage, I don't have any debt. I can manage to buy the horse and pay for the day to day costs without getting into debt unless, of course I was made redundant or similar but there's no reason to think that might happen at the moment and I can't put my life on hold 'just in case'! I'm going to have a chat to my riding instructor at the weekend to ask for her opinion and some help in finding the right horse for me.
I still intend to overpay to my mortgage but it will probably only be dribs and drabs, though while the interest rates are this low I am automatically overpaying, directly to the mortgage and not to a savings account, £117 a month anyway.
Thanks again for your thoughts, they are much appreciated.

Hi, No 124 checking in for April.
Not quite sure how but I have managed an OP this month of £1478. Not that I'm complaining but I double checked all my figures before transfering the money to the mortgage as I thought I must have made a mistake somewhere.
Really pleased with this. If I can keep this up till the end of the year balance will be down to about 35K.0 -

Morning all!
173 joining the challenge here :-)
I've set myself an OP target of 10k for the year. We OP monthly anyway, but this means finding a further £7204 above our current regular OPs. Assuming interest rates remain the same (hah!) this shaves a further 9 months (min) off (I've stuck the £7204 in my s/sht as an OP for Dec to get the 'worst' effect of the OP)
Here's my diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2364743 Not much in there so far
I have no idea how I'm going to do the £7204, but hey ho! I'm determined to do it and have some paypal funds as a start, along with a heap of stuff to list on ebay to increase them (hopefully!)
Looking forwrad to joining you all in reducing our mortgages...
