Ha Ha - cant beleive I'm only just catching up with this thread, life's been so hectic recently I dont think I can fit in being prime minister - but thanks anyway - o actually bellsbells started the ball rolling with the 2008 MFW thread so maybe she wants to do it.........:D:confused::DMFW 2010 Challenge (No 68) - £133.29/ £5000MFITT2 Challenge - (No 181) - Target Reduce mortgage to £130,000Mortgage @ 1.8.09 - £161160  @1.12.09 - £159052  @ 1.2.10 £157,3630 -
This is the first time I have been actively putting money aside to OP. I have previously done it when some money built up a little in the current account. Just tried to OP from the account I have set up (to pay "bits" into before transferring to mortgage) and I can't do it until I have a card reader . It is apparently in the post :j. Never mind, will give me more time to accumulate more "bits".
Amazing to see how well you all did last year - well done :beer:0 -
Hi all, well we have just had our standard £200 a month overpayment go out with the mortgage payment which is not a bad start to the year - fingers crossed for interest rates to stay low!
It does look like I will have quite a spare bit of cash by next month however we are off to Dubai on the 30th :jso I don't want to put it all away on the mortgage because I'm hoping we'll have a credit card bill to reflect all the fun we will have so will stick with just £200 this month and see how it goes.
Also, I have just found out I am pregnant so unsure as to how I should proceed with the overpayments. The normal £200 a month is fine, at least until I am on maternity leave in July but that will leave us £1100 short of my target this year if I don't overpay anything else.
I know how broke we were last time and there's a chance I may lose my job so I think I will put any spare money into the savings account because if I put it on the mortgage I know I won't want to get it back! At the moment we have about £1,500 in the savings account so I will also keep a tally of how much goes in there and maybe make a lump sum overpayment at the end of the year when I know how much we need to dip into it.

Hi clearmydebts, CONGRATS on the pregnancy, if you haven't got a nectar card you can get £10 back on one through Sainsburys as part of the 'mother and baby group' they do (at least they were giving that away before Christmas) also, if you're seriously worried about money after baby is born ask for nappies for presents, or little hampers of babywash, wipes, lotions etc. Anyway congrats again x
Today moneysavers my little boy threw a toilet roll down the loo AFTER he'd wee'd and l'm not ashamed to say l fished it out and cut off the wet edges to re-use the rest of the roll!!! :rotfl::o

Have been buying nappies etc as we go so am trying to be as prepared as possible. Am also hoping to mix and match with cloth nappies/disposable and disposable wipes/washable ones.
OH is due some money back from tax etc so we should be able to add to the baby savings soon and we won't be too bad til I go back to workHave a nectar card but will defo check out the mother and baby club. Sounds great!

Just wanted to say re the online OP discussion that I am with the Nationwide for both mortgage and current account and I discovered that if you pay the OP over the counter with a cheque then the mortgage account gets credited right away (so less interest to pay) but the cheque takes a couple of days to clear the current account (which pays interest) - so I always do it this way to maximise the amount of interest I earn/save. Does that make sense?
