Post away curlygirl, all like-minded folk welcome! (can I confess that whenever I see your username I think of a favourite doll from my childhood with fabulous green curly hair - it's a compliment
)
LOL sounds like Grotbags!
Many thanks to those that replied - much appreciated
wantabetterlife & cake21 - that's great info. Will give that a try tomorrow. I've been with the Halifax since I was 8 (not a mortgage of course) and have loads of different accounts with them. Never had much of a problem and always found them really helpful, but this has really got me pulling my hair out. They recently 'failed' to take a standard monthly payment (despite me having funds) and they don't even seem bothered about getting the money, presumably because I've been over-paying. I've practically had to beg them to take the payment and it still hasn't left the account yet! Grrrrrr.0 -
Ok, first real post in this 2010 thread...
Complete change of tactics since I subscribed to this 2010 challenge. Mortgage is at 4.79% thus I need 6.0% in a savings account to beat mortgage rate, which I'm currently struggling to find.
So, my mortgage is my new savings accountand instead of my original objective, I'm intending to overpay by £6,000 this year, ie 12 x £500 which is the maximum allowed on a Nationwide fixed rate.
In doing so, this should also bring my completion date forward by about 6 months as the extra cash is working harder for us in the mortgage account than in the savings account.
I have set up 12 overpayments for 2010 on the first day of each month and I completely forgot about an update here. Just posted an on-line form update with my January £500 overpayment for cake21.
Here's hoping it's a good 2010 everyone :j

Curly I am with the halifax but my CA is with lloyds. I have set up a payment onlline with lloyds so I can OP as and when I want for any amount. I had to get there bank details and my account number, firstly did a test run and rang to make sure they had received it and then made my bigger amounts.
It does annoy me with halifa though that they only update my mortgage account details online once a month so I cant see where I am but I do have my spreadsheet for that, so not too bad.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016
MF new target Dec 16 REACHED!! :j0 -
Oh flipping heck!
I got all excited. I went online and into the mortgage bit and lo and behold the Sort Code and Account number were there! Thinking 'I have the power of GREYSKULL!!!!' I then hurried across to my Halifax CA (which I use for spending rather than bills) to set up a Bill payment - but it came up with the message 'You have entered an invalid account number'. So then tried setting up a SO but got the same message. I will ring to check tomorrow but I bet it's something stupid and annoying and dastardly on their system.......I'll probably end up doing what you've done and setting up the payment from my NatWest CA which is my bills account and therefore never carries a surplus. Grrrrrrr0 -

Hi there
I am new to posting on this thread, but subscribed and followed closely everyones efforts on MFW 2009 - some fab work there.
We have decided to throw all we can at the mortgage in an attempt to clear it by my hubbys 60th birthday (april 2014), we have part repayment and part endowment mortgage. We are on Nationwide SVR of 2.5% which is fab, although we are both a bit nervous about not being fixed. Nationwide let you have your overpayments back if we needed them, although hopefully we won't.
We currently overpay £250 a month anyway, and I put anything extra I can, we are pulling out of bonds due this summer and next summer to put to this challenge, as they are not earning enough to justify not doing it.
Good luck to everyone!MFiT-T2 no 66. To clear £61000 mortgage by 10 Dec 2012new balance 5/11/12 £18000Not going to make target but still delightedBig debt £24500 Lightbulb moment Aug 04 :eek:All paid off 20.12.06 - YEEESSSS!!!!!!:j0 -

Curly, i have just checked with my bank online to see what details i had to give them for halifax overpayments. I needed the sort code and mortgage roll number, not the account number. Have you tried this? Hope it worksCredit card £4461.15Home mortgage £137117Buy to let mortgage £83,0000 -
Just a quickie to say 'Thanks wantabetterlife'. The roll no. won't go in either. Am going to ring them later or go into branch tomorrow. Shall report back0
