No 102 here... Made an over payment of AU$305.07 and $13.75 yesterday.

That makes it up to a total of $321.45 so far this year...

  • Wrote a cheque for £250 for my January overpayment yesterday and now snowed in and can't take it to the Britannia, dammit :)

Not a big thing in the grand scheme of things, but was looking forward to that first overpayment of the year.

Do you have online banking? If so you could transfer the payment online and save yourself a trip to the bank.

    Just a thought

I do (almost) everything with online banking, and wish I could track the mortgage and overpay that way - but my Building Society (Britannia) seem stuck in the dark ages, a cheque payable to myself handed in over the counter appears to be the only way.

As they're merging (or being taken over, not quite sure which ;) ) with the Co-op things may improve one day, but i'm not holding my breath. They're always helpful in person, have been a mortgage customer for more than a decade, but wish they'd join the 21st century! Unless you set up your own spreadsheeets the only other thing you'll ever know about your mortgage is an annual statement sometime in mid/late January.

That's what I dislike about my small building society. Just a statement in January but on the plus side a really good interest rate at the moment. In fact a few months ago they offered me 4.79% for the lifetime of the mortgage, time will tell if I was a fool not to take it up.

    Hello

Not a member of this particular challenge but am following it with interest as Mortgage reduction is something I'm aspiring to

Hope you don't mind me posting therefore following comment above regarding on-line payments (gosh don't I sound formal - am nervous incase you tell me to clear off your thread:o). I am with the Halifax - CA and mortgage is with them. Have tried a couple of times to set up an additional monthly over-payment that I can management myself on-line (Some months I can only over-pay by £10 and sometimes its upto £200).

I get told by Halifax staff that its possible, they set-up a 'payment' and then when I go on-line I can't amend it. I have to ring up or go into branch. When I do this they say 'oh you can change it yourself on-line'. After several enquiries I've now been told that I can't and I do indeed have to change it via them. I was just wondering if anyone else with the Halifax had had a different experience and how it was achieved

Thanks very much (and I'll get off your thread now ;))

You're very welcome to be on the thread :) and don't feel you can't be part of it if you can't make a commitment to a regular payment, you can still join and just 'pay as you go' :)

I'm not with Halifax but I know with Nationwide I have a payment arrangement set up that lets me pay in amounts as an when I can. I do have a direct debit as well though.

Hope you get it sorted, it does sound ridiculous to me.

Post away curlygirl, all like-minded folk welcome! (can I confess that whenever I see your username I think of a favourite doll from my childhood with fabulous green curly hair - it's a compliment :D)

My mum had a Halifax mortgage and used to make OPs in the manner you've described. We could see the OPs online but not amend them. However I used to make online OPs successfully to her mortgage account after asking Halifax for the correct account number/sort code and using the mortgage account roll number as a reference. This was back when they were a building society, but I would have thought it would be easier now??

I'm with Co-op/Smile and I keep being told I can see my mortgage online, but not *how*; then that I can't after all; but either way I can't at the moment...only get an annual statement as you do. So please let me know if anything changes! They are very happy to give me the balance that day whenever I telephone though :D
As above I'm amazed you can't make an online payment, even if not through a Britannia current account.
  • Curly i have a mortgage with halfax and wanted to make overpayments online. To set this up i phoned and asked for the sort code and account number and then i registered this with my own bank (bank of ireland) via online banking. This means i can make an overpayment of any amount at any time to the halifax. Hope that helps
