  • Can I join in please I have completed the online form, I have been messing around for ages wanting to reduce my mortgage and I have now made my first decent overpayment. £707 which felt great hoping to have around that again for next month.

I love the spreadsheet, very motivational.

Right, walked SWMBO to work this morning with the dog in tow (Puppies love the snow!!!)

Walked home via the shop for some milk, helped to dig out 4 cars in the village and now back warming my toes up! dog is asleep on the kitchen floor being gently warmed by the underfloor heating!!!

made January overpayments now. all my christmas bonus and the remains of my savings from last year. Total overpaid in January £25,500.

whilst this is a large amount, its all relative to the amount outstanding!!! we should be down to £140k now after this and would love to get to our target this year although this will be the last of the big overpayments for a while!!!

Great work everyone!!! keep it up!!!

Hi all, well done so far!!

I've had a thought, we have 71,000 outstanding at moment but it's on interest only, however, l'm classing everything we overpay as an overpayment.... l don't know if you'd all class it as a proper overpayment as such....?

Anyway l'm proud of the mortgage and rate, it's a First Direct offset 0.25% about base rate  we came out of our deal July 08 and were on a standard variable for a few months but l was positive rates were going to plummet which they did and eventually l got this deal. Interest only payments have been between £50-£75 per month, we've still had major work to do on the house which has just about finished so now we're concentrating on repaying ASAP.

We do have an electrician in soon and the bill for that will be around £600 but we currently have £1,037.00 in the offset mortgage reserve account.

Anyway that's about it really, l'm excited and although it's early we have enough in the cupboards to not shop so much in January foodwise and enough in the current account to warrant an overpayment of £500 end Jan (hopefully!) x

    Happy moneysaving all.

Happy new year everyone. No OPs this month yet (we usually pay around 28th) but have popped in to update my balance in my sig and am chuffed to note that our mortgage is now under £20k! (Actually it is at the level we borrowed 31 years ago to buy our first house!) Anyway, I am going to make the max OP I am allowed and then chuck everything else I can afford into my e-savings account and hope that there will be enough to redeem the mortgage by the end of July when my DH turns 60. Fingers crossed!

    good luck everyone.
