    Hi all,

Forgive me but I am over-excited about the frugal living thread run by nykmedia. Absolutely loads of ideas and links to save money in the first post :j

It's inspired me to write a budget for next year, and I'm feeling much more confident about meeting my OP target and taking control of my finances :j:j

(Can't remember who originally linked to this thread, but I don't think it was in here :D)

    ETA: welcome wannasavemoney!

On a slightly serious note, aren't there any small OP targets out there? When I first started OPing it was £10-20 per month. Was it just me? Or are people with a £100/year target (say) not interested in joining a challenge(s)? Or something else?

Maybe it's a bit scary to sign up with smaller OP targets than the ones already pledged? Every penny counts though, and surely it's easier doing it as part of a group than on your own, so hopefully no one is put off! :D

I would've started on more like 10-20 a month, but have benefitted the last few months by dropping onto a low SVR. Perhaps it will be back to lower/no overpayments when the interest rates go back up!

Cake I honestly thing its because some/most people honestly don't understand the concept of overpaying. You would be surprised the amount of people i know that have thousands sitting in their current accounts earning practically no interest and pay the minimum mortgage payment yet that is 5.99%.

I think others who are aware of overpaying think that you won't make a diffrence with only say £1 a month. I think i posted somewhere about the overall effect of regular overpayments no matter how small.

    Hi Cake21,

When I pledged my total for 2010, I plucked the amount out of thin air (my total being 2010 so you can see where that came from), when I then calculated how much that equated to over the 12 months it worked out at 167.50 and I had a bit of an eek  moment.

However since then I have got myself a job and have worked out my budget as per The Frugal Living Challenge, and it seems much more achievable, so I intend to increase the monthly total by 167.50 and any extra smaller overpayments will also be made.

I will keep you informed of this, however I won't be filling in the Spread Sheet on page 1 cos I'm on dial-up and it's too darned slow, so I hope this is ok with you.

    Toodles.

Well we've had the electrician round to do a few bits in the new year and he's quoted us £600!!! Still it is essential and we'll just have to make the total up later, my little one goes to school in Sept so l'll have a bit extra to pay off each month, plus l really am due a pay rise in 2010 so £5k is still achieveable (at the moment)......

    Happy moneysaving all.

I've sent you a PM with my email address in case that's easier for updates.

The google form was supposed to make things easier all round, e.g if my PM box filled up, but obviously everyone please ignore it if it doesn't work for you :D
